About the role


You will be the ‘go to person’ for all things Asset Investment, so we are looking for someone who not only has a proven background within a technical asset management role but someone who is a people person! You’ve got to have excellent stakeholder management in this role!


You’ll be joining a driven and high performing team so having both the ambition and knowledge to drive excellence within this customer focused environment is key!

Key Accountabilities


  • Manage network asset risk through the defect management process, and propose, seek approval for and sanction appropriate interventions to mitigate risk.
  • Develop asset health interventions necessary from basic capability requirement through to the development of the technical specification of the output to be progressed through the Network Development Process to delivery. Ensure all interventions align with GT asset management strategy.
  • Manage the delegation of responsibilities within National Grid for delivery of technical and construction elements of sanctioned schemes. Provide project sponsorship to ensure these responsibilities are fulfilled to quality, time and cost and that effective communications with all internal stakeholders are maintained.
  • Proactively develop all necessary technical outputs required as part of project initiation to enable a full and effective handover of the sanctioned scheme to the relevant Service Provider for delivery of the project; technical outputs may include technical outputs report, Asset Health scopes, business proposals and solutions, studies, risk assessments, cost estimates and plans to deliver business objectives and targets ensuring the interaction of multiple or complex systems is considered.
  • On project completion ensure transfer of the ownership of assets with stakeholder agreement and support and ensure project documentation is completed and maintenance requirements are incorporated in Ellipse. Ensure that all relevant information and lessons learnt are captured on project completion prior to submitting the project closure paper.
  • Develop and improve Asset Health processes and novel ways of working in conjunction with leading on campaign type investment programmes to improve efficiency and enable delivery of Asset Health works.
  • Lead, supervise or operate within a project team or virtual teams to achieve business objectives, plans and targets to enhance performance, condition, records and compliance with statutory requirements
About you


We are looking for a seasoned Asset Investment Engineer to join the Engineering & Asset Management team. As you’ll support the whole of Gas Transmission (GT), this role will be based in our Warwick office.  


As an Asset Investment Engineer you will:


Lead the initiation, development and sponsoring of Asset Health interventions required on the Gas Transmission network maintaining the health of our assets. Whilst actively understanding and developing solutions that maintain the system capability to satisfy customer and stakeholder needs whilst meeting legislative requirements and company strategic objectives, in line with GT asset management strategy.


Acting as Project Sponsor, ensuring the projects are delivered to time, cost and quality whilst helping to remove obstacles that may hinder project progression, minimising the need for project re-sanction throughout the project lifecycle. 


Alongside managing the sanction process including preparation of appropriate sanction papers, maintaining the progress against sanctioned scope of works, costs and programme to ensure that any changes are managed with stakeholder agreement within governance.

  • Self-motivated: is organised and able to work independently as well as being a ‘team player’ enabling you to work effectively on your own and within the wider Engineering and Asset Management team. 
  • Adaptable: You’ll make informed decisions and can report your findings to both internal and external stakeholders at various levels.
  • Driven: Ensure we continue to provide an efficient service, by effectively mitigating new/ongoing risks.
Qualifications and Technical Knowledge and Experience


  • An understanding of the impact of asset management decisions on operational activities
  • Financial management across a significant portfolio of investment programmes
  • Project management skills and knowledge including the ability to prioritise activities using appropriate tools and resources

What you'll get


A competitive salary between £41,300 - 52,299 – dependent on capability


 As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
