National Grid is hiring a Senior Engineer for our Electrical Distribution Planning & Asset Mgmt NE department in Waltham, Massachusetts. This is a hybrid role (MA, RI, NH) with approximately 1-2 days a week in the office (not a remote role).

Job Purpose

To provide allocated engineering services for the generation of new business ideas, providing capability to develop strategic options into fully sanctioned schemes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess the performance of the sub-Transmission and Distribution system performance regarding capacity and reliability and develop modernization plans as necessary.
  • Conduct 15 year area studies and develop long term integrated plans for infrastructure development to meet National Grid’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop conceptual project plans that if implemented economically address identified T&D system needs.
  • Effectively form project teams of internal and external stakeholders for the development of project plans.
  • Ensure asset data (ie load readings and equipment settings) is captured correctly in the appropriate asset registers.
  • Analyze policies, strategies and programs that are in progress or completed to determine their effectiveness versus stated goals.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
  • Provide technical support to internal and external departments for the application, operation, and maintenance of the electric transmission and distribution system.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Able to lead and supervise a project team or virtual teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Proactively makes changes to improve performance, efficiency and effectiveness of processes, for example challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.
  • Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.
  • Is receptive to change and is willing to change ideas or opinions based on new information or contrary evidence.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program. EIT and Professional Engineer license desirable.
  • 5-8 years' experience
  • Broad-based knowledge of distribution equipment and industry practices
  • Can perform circuit protection coordination reviews
  • Trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability to organize large amounts of data and analyze the contents
  • Knowledge of the contents of the asset register
  • Skilled at using computer software to mine data and analyze the information.
  • Valid Driver's License Required

Salary: $124,0000 - $146,000
