Electrical Operations Technician - Huntingdon - £60,000+ (OTE)
Gas goes in, gas comes out. Sounds simple, right? But you know it isn't.
As a skilled technician, you’ll help protect and maintain the high-pressure systems in our compressor stations. These stations are the engines that power long-distance gas pipelines across the National Transmission System.
Working with our Operations Team, you’ll cover a patch to take on the installation, inspection, commissioning, operation, repair and maintenance of various electrical equipment. You may also be required to act as incident controller and site main controller and oversee and inspect work carried out by others.
You’ll also issue permission documents, formulate isolations and support with the construction and commissioning of new assets on the system.
You’ll have previously completed an apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) and hold a BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an Electrical discipline, along with BS7671 18th Edition. Compex 01 - 04 qualification is desirable along with experience of working in hazardous areas.
You’ll have operated, controlled and undertaken work within Safe Systems of Work. You’ll also have experience in undertaking maintenance, fault diagnosis and rectification work within the oil and gas (or similar) industry. We work in hazardous areas, so knowledge of health and safety is key.
You’ll be covering different sites across your patch, so expect some travel.

About us
We are National Gas, including National Gas Transmission and National Gas Metering.
In February 2023 we became a standalone business, to maintain and own the Gas Infrastructure in the UK. But more than that, to develop and grow this infrastructure to set us up for a cleaner energy future. A future of Hydrogen.
This means we are currently in a period of both opportunity and uncertainty. While nobody knows exactly what things will look like in a years’ time, those who join the business now will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of Gas Transmission in the UK.
Business separations take a long time, so you might still see some references to National Grid here and there. This is part of the process, and won’t make any difference to your application.
The closing date is 11th June, although in some cases I’ll close the ad early, so don’t delay.
I’ll respond to every single application.
