National Grid is hiring a Global Compensation Manager for our Global Compensation Team. This position is located in NG House, Warwick and we offer hybrid working.
The Opportunity
The Global Compensation Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing global compensation strategies and programs aligned with business goals and market competitiveness. The role involves providing expertise in compensation practices, market analysis, job evaluation, and compliance with regulatory frameworks.
What You'll Do
· Develop innovative global compensation strategies to attract, motivate, and retain talent.
· Align compensation initiatives with the organization's long-term strategic goals and industry best practices.
· Lead global projects such as salary structure reviews, incentive plan designs, and equity compensation programs.
· Oversee global compensation operations, ensuring efficient and accurate administration of compensation processes.
· Conduct comprehensive benchmarking and market data analyses to inform compensation decisions.
· Manage annual compensation cycle activities, including merit, bonus, and long-term incentive planning.
· Led and mentored a team of compensation professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
· Provide training and guidance to HR teams globally on compensation principles and practices.
· Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the global compensation function.
· Effectively manage resources allocated for compensation initiatives, ensuring optimal use and alignment with budgetary constraints.
· Monitor and control compensation surveys, consulting, and associated services expenditures. Comp Cycle, MRP, and Salary Increase Budget
· Oversee annual compensation review processes, manage merit review planning (MRP), and ensure equitable salary adjustments.
· Develop, propose, and manage the global salary increase budget, ensuring alignment with financial objectives and market positioning.
· Lead job evaluation processes using job-family architecture methodologies to maintain internal equity and external competitiveness.
· Support pay negotiations during mergers and acquisitions, ensuring seamless integration of compensation structures.
· Manage sensitive pay negotiations and resolution of complex compensation issues with business leaders.
· Develop clear and effective communication strategies to ensure understanding and engagement with global compensation programs.
· Partner closely with HR and communication teams to transparently communicate recognition programs and compensation changes.
About You
• Demonstrable experience in compensation management at a global scale, including expertise in market analysis, salary benchmarking, and incentive program design.
• Strong knowledge of compensation-related regulatory requirements across multiple countries and regions.
• Proven track record in managing complex compensation projects and leading teams effectively.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills, with proficiency in compensation software and HRIS systems.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £62,000 - £74,000 – dependent on capability
- 28 days holiday, plus eight statutory days and an option to buy extra holiday days.
- An annual performance bonus of up to 15% of your eligible earnings in the performance year.
