National Grid is hiring a Platform Technical Director for our IT Digital Workplace Services team. This is a hybrid role based in Warwick 1-2 times a week.

 

About The Role

In the Platform Technical Director your purpose is to develop and implement platform-wide architecture and processes that align with the organization's strategic goals and ensure compliance between business and technology strategies. This role contributes to our vision by providing strategic leadership and guidance to stakeholders, identifying market trends and business benefits, and managing governance practices to ensure the organization's success.

 

As the Platform Technical Director for the Digital Workplace Services (DWS) Platform, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Driving the strategic technology direction of the platform, in alignment with the overall strategy defined by the Platform Technical Director, including shaping the technology roadmap across architecture, engineering, and platform priorities.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand requirements for DWS tooling for end user devices, collaboration, digital directory, observability, service management and operations management. Examples include: Microsoft/Office 365, Windows/MacOS/iOS/Android, Active Directory, InTune/SCCM/JAMF, Azure AI -- translating these into actionable architectural solutions.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies, particularly in public and private cloud, AI, operations and end user request automation, Digital Experience Management (DEX/DEM), and observability to assess their alignment with platform goals and organizational standards.
  • Conducting market analysis, architectural and technical reviews to ensure compliance with established standards, identifying and implementing areas for improvement.
  • Collaborating with platform leadership on aligning roadmaps to an overall multi-year strategic timeline and business cases to fund delivery.
  • Providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration across architecture, engineering, and operations.
  • Mentoring and coaching team members to build expertise in platform technologies and associated processes.
  • Ensuring platform solutions align with organizational needs while maintaining a focus on reliability, scalability, efficiency and security.

About You

  • Formal academic qualifications in a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in technology operations, architecture, or related fields, with significant expertise in leading technology strategies.
  • Solid understanding of Digital Workplace strategies, best practices and standards, and KPIs.
  • Hands-on experience with public and private cloud technologies, networking, and automation tools.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills with a history of developing and delivering robust technical roadmaps.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, adept at engaging and influencing both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead in a matrixed environment, aligning teams to shared objectives and fostering collaboration.
  • Demonstrated success in evaluating and implementing emerging technologies to drive innovation and operational excellence.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £70,000 - £85,000 – dependent on capability


As well as your base salary, you will receive a company car or allowance, a bonus of up to 20% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
