First Responder Instructor About us National Grid is hiring a First Responder Instructor position in our location in Henry Clay Blvd, NY. Deliver high quality learning experiences that meet clients' technical, regulatory and safety learning needs through a blended learning approach and support the design and development of learning solutions. At the highest level the role will act as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the US in First Responder and Emergency Response activities.

Job Purpose

To deliver high quality learning experiences that meet clients' technical, regulatory and safety learning needs through a blended learning approach and support the design and development of learning solutions.

Key Accountabilities

• Deliver First Responder technical training programs to clients through a blended learning approach, such as hands on activities, Train-the-Trainer programs and In-Person Training to simulate real events, ensuring that National Grid is effectively providing safety training in line with external requirements, operational priorities, and best practice. 
• Ability to work Evenings, Weekends and Industry events. 
• Support the design and development of cohesive, innovative curriculum and training programs to meet client learning requests. Diversify capabilities to deliver training throughout national grid for ancillary curriculums.
• Liaise with the business, acting as a technical training advisor for various departments throughout the company to resolve any queries or issues. Develop Annual Learning Plans (ALP) to ensure training needs of clients are met and proper resources are allocated. Provide regular reports on progress and variances. • Utilize new training content and props as developed under the Gas Technical Training First Responder program. Conduct FR Training in compliance with the NYS PSC Rate Case. Develop contacts and solicit FR Organizations to develop a schedule of training opportunities. 
• Represent Gas Technical Training as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on various committees including governance bodies, transformation and best practice committees and other technical committees in order ensure that L&D is represented and understood in the business. Participate during the modification and creation of new technical training programs by the Design and Development areas of Learning and Development. Represent L&D.
 • Conduct assessments of training needs associated with the introduction of new equipment, procedures and technology to ensure that National Grid incorporates best practice into learning methods and programs.
 • Conduct structured On the Job Training (S-OJT) as a part of the Gas Technical Training Transformation. Assist employees in the field as requested and conduct formal evaluations which are required for an employee’s progression. 
• Keep up to date on training developments to ensure that innovation and latest learning requirements and ideas are incorporated into National Grids technical training programs. 
 

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5-7 years of Community Involvement with First Responder activities and programs experience. 
• CDL A strongly desired with proof of drive training/instructing experience.
 • Working knowledge of Forklift, heavy equipment related experience and/or training.
 • Knowledge of Gas Maintenance and Construction preferred. 
• Gas Field Operations experience a plus. • Electrical Operations experience and knowledge of Electric Substations a plus. 
• Proven Training experience and Safety subject matter expert preferred.
 • Supervisory experience and/or advanced degree in a related field is a plus.
 • Good oral and written communication skills. 
• Ability to speak/present in front of large unfamiliar audiences.
 • Must have strong interpersonal skills. be able to perform in a team environment, collaborate with others, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
 • Strong knowledge of technical and safety policies / procedures/ standards and regulatory requirements.
 • Understanding of training and development principles and adult learning theory 
• Working knowledge of personal computers and various business-related software and technology a must. 
• Travel Required. 
• Night time training will occur with occasional weekend commitments 
• Must possess a valid driver's license with safe driving history.

Salary

$64,000 - $75,000K a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
