Most Popular Questions

How do I apply to join National Grid?

You can search for a specific vacancy using our job search engine. You will discover how to apply in each job advert.

I can’t find a suitable job on your website; can I still apply?

We do not accept speculative applications, CVs or résumés via email. You can only apply to a specific vacancy found through our job search tool. If you join our Talent Network, you can sign up to receive updates with new vacancies.

If I submit an application or register my details, will National Grid keep me on file?

We store all candidate details on a central database for two years, unless we receive a written request by an individual to delete their personal record. These records enable us to search against candidate profiles with specific skill sets, should we have specific recruitment needs in the future.

Do I need a degree to work at National Grid?

It will depend on the level and nature of the role in which you’re interested. If a degree is a requirement, it will usually be stated in the job advert. However, a candidate who does not hold a degree may still be considered for one of our professional vacancies if they can demonstrate substantial relevant experience.

How long after applying can I expect to wait before hearing anything?

You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt within 48 hours. You should then receive correspondence regarding a decision within the following weeks.

Do I need to have experience of working in the energy industry to join National Grid?

It depends on the position you’re interested in. Many technical roles require you to have spent time in a similar job and environment, while others require less specific experience. Most of our commercial opportunities are based on generic business knowledge and so do not require experience in the energy industry.

General Questions

I have a customer question or complaint - whom can I talk to?

In order to make a customer complaint or ask a question about our products or a specific National Grid product, you can contact National Grid in your country by looking up the contact details of the local Customer Service Centre on the country website.

Applying with disabilities

National Grid is an equal opportunities employer. If you have a disability, long term health condition, or an injury that could require adjustments or accommodations to either the facilities or the application process, you would have the opportunity to indicate/state this while filling out the application form itself. For any follow-up queries or additional support, during the application process (after you have submitted the application), please contact us at careers@nationalgrid.com

I have received an email with a job offer from National Grid - is this real or a scam?

Everyone who is offered employment from National Grid, whether directly or indirectly, is always required to go through a formal recruitment process.

There have been incidents where fraudsters pretend to recruit on behalf of National Grid or where people claim to work for or be affiliated with National Grid. One way to recognise their scam emails is to check the email address: because these mails are usually not sent from a National Grid email account they often do not end with “@nationalgrid.com” but for example, “yahoo.com” or “hotmail.com”. Very often they also use poor English or, at some stage, request money from the recipient.

We recommend that you do not respond to these scam emails or any email you do not trust and never disclose your personal or financial details to anyone you do not know. If you receive such proposals, we would advise you to contact your local police and provide them with all information you may have from the senders.

What are your compensation and benefits?

We'll make every effort to provide the kind of rewards and benefits that will complement your own particular lifestyle and needs.

How can I hear about jobs available in more than one country?
