    Our Culture

Our culture

Why is diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) so important?

Our culture is more than a mission statement or set of values. It’s everything we put into everything we do. It’s our commitment to diversity and inclusion; how we help our employees learn and grow; and how we partner with and support the communities where we live and work. It’s all this, and so much more.

"I fundamentally believe that it's our people that make National Grid such a great place to work, and ensuring that we create the right environment to allow everyone to be themselves and to thrive is essential."

John Pettigrew, Chief Executive, National Grid

The power of people

We are anchored by our purpose. We listen to every voice. We explore with energy. We keep the lights on and homes warm. But it’s so much more than that.

We keep people connected and society moving. This isn’t easy, and it takes all of us. But National Grid provides us all with the environment to make it happen. As we generate momentum in the energy transition for all, the power of people will help keep the future bright.

  • Keep connected through hybrid working

We understand more than ever that different moments call for different environments. A quiet place to focus or space to collaborate. The important thing is that it works for us all.

Our future for office-based teams is hybrid, a mix between home and office working. This approach provides the flexibility to work in ways that are most productive and keeps us connected with our teams regardless of their location.

As we evolve overtime and adapt to hybrid working, we will always prioritise safety, health and wellbeing.

Awards and recognition

The value of our work and the important role our people play in getting it done each day makes us a good employer who takes our responsibilities to make everyone welcome at work seriously. That’s why we’ve been recognised by top organisations for what it is we do and even how well we treat our people. It’s all just part of who we are.
