National Grid is hiring an Assistant Associate Engineer for our Gas Planning and Design Engineering department in Brightwater, NY.

Job Purpose

To provide engineering support for the development and implementation of strategic initiatives of the enterprise wide gas distribution and transmission, as an entry-level engineer.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform engineering and design functions to ensure the successful completion of natural gas main and service
  • replacement projects, which will allow for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to existing and future customers.
  • Such projects include: natural gas distribution main replacements; gas service replacements, internal sealing/rehabilitation projects and other special capital projects.
  • Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to) Develop natural gas main and service replacement programs by performing a detailed analysis of the existing natural gas distribution systems.
  • Analyze natural gas main and service leak data to determine project prioritization factors in accordance to Regulatory requirements and Company procedures.
  • Analyze and organize service attribute data for inclusion in the Service Replacement Program.
  • Analyze natural gas facility replacement requests from Field Operations personnel. Also, act as a liaison with Field Operations personnel to communicate and coordinate natural gas replacement programs.
  • Supervise the preparation of main replacement work order packages in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Coordinate design plans and make recommendations for system improvements. Review municipal work plans for areas of conflict or opportunity.
  • Evaluate and manage the implementation of new technologies and processes in Engineering Planning.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to other National Grid Departments (e.g. Field operations, Environmental, Legal and Gas Control Departments).
  • Prepare reports in accordance with Regulatory requirements and Company needs.
  • Prepare cost estimates. Review and update system records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Act a liaison with municipalities to secure permits for gas main replacement work.

     
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure, remaining calm and focused on the task at hand.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET accredited school in an engineering discipline is required.
  • Progressive engineering related work experience is desired, but not required. Entry-Level candidates will be considered.
  • Strong computer applications skills required. Knowledge of engineering design standards and applicable natural gas industry codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of natural gas distribution systems (mains and services) as well as transmission mains.
  • Knowledge of underground construction techniques and practices. Field and/or operating experience/knowledge a plus strong project management skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Excellent administrative and organization Skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
