Job Purpose
The Program Manager, Safety will support the management and governance of the various Safety Programs & Policies, safety documentation, safety communications, and other key safety components. Specifically, the Program Manager will develop recommendations to drive increased quality and operational efficiencies.
Key Accountabilities
- Program Management: Evaluate and facilitate the improvement for applicable safety programs and processes. Support the governance and maintenance of the safety management system and processes.
- Utility Operations Experience: Demonstrated knowledge of Electric and/or Gas operations tasks, methods, and the associated workplace hazards. Fundamental knowledge of state and federal statutes and rules pertaining to Electric and Gas Utility
- Project Management: Develop or support development of project plans for safety programs, improvement initiatives, including identifying impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, and quality control measures.
- Change Management: Create strategies and action plans, including training and reporting, to effectively implement safety programs and adopt change.
- Stakeholder engagement and relationship building: Identify and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (i.e., union and non-union employees/leaders, contractors, and key safety organizations). Benchmarking to keep abreast of current safety issues impacting worker safety.
- Process Improvement and problem solving: Proactively identify and implement changes to enhance performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of safety processes.
- Communication: Support development and execution of safety communication strategies and plans to drive safety culture and change
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science/engineering, safety, or other business field from an accredited institution
- 2-4 years’ experience in Utility Operations.
- Strong project management experience and expertise with strong working knowledge and experience in program management principles, tools and techniques.
- Possess excellent organizational and planning skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex, major initiatives of significant scope, including unconventional projects.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to the organization; may include negotiation and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to network internally and externally and to develop successful, long-lasting business partnerships with others and seeks to understand and challenge business scenarios to the benefit of all parties.
- Exhibit high personal standards of commitment and integrity

Upstate NY: $111,000 - $131,000
Downstate NY: $127,000 - $149,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
