Job Purpose

 

 

The Senior Gas Control Engineer provides technical compliance support and expertise to ensure the safe, secure, and reliable operation of National Grid’s transmission and distribution systems. The Engineer will serve as a subject-matter expert on natural gas curtailment efforts and outage management processes.

Key Accountabilities

 

 

Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

 

 

  • Perform standard engineering analysis and provide recommendations associated with natural gas curtailment efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in designing, developing, and executing policies and processes pertaining to gas supply capacity and usage related to gas curtailment.
  • Independently collate and analyze large datasets within one area using various simulation tools, methods and formats in order to support the department’s decision-making process.
  • Conduct specific projects within area of capability and perform engineering studies, analysis and investigations, under supervision, in order to recommend corrective/preventative action in problem areas.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and revising existing curtailment response programs and emerging technologies as needed to meet the overall operational needs of the gas system.

  • In collaboration with Emergency Planning, prepare and lead small and large-scale emergency curtailment drills which include local LDCs, pipelines, regulatory, and government agencies.
  • Provide technical training support to Gas System Operators related to curtailment planning and execution.
  • Develop reports and metrics on system supply issues or other major events as required.
  • Expand and maintain new, as well as existing, PowerBI dashboards that are Gas Control specific.
  • Provide input for system additions/modifications as needed.
  • Provide ad-hoc support in development of the Control Center SCADA Simulators.

Qualifications

 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering and 3-5 years of experience in gas utility industry.
  • Proven experience prioritizing work and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of gas system operations and market operations.
  • Gas operations and Control Room experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of gas SCADA systems and Synergi analysis a plus.
  • Must have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365, including Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, and Power Automate.
  • Excellent written, and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of National Grid’s business operations, Company policies and practices.
  • PE and advanced degree are desirable.

Salary

$114k - $134k a year
