National Grid is hiring a Senior Distribution Planning Engineer for our Distribution Planning and Asset Management department in Syracuse, NY

Job Purpose

To provide allocated engineering services for the generation of new business ideas, providing capability to develop strategic options into fully sanctioned schemes.

Key Accountabilities

• System Planning & Asset Management: Provide strategic direction for immediate and long-term planning of sub-transmission and distribution systems, ensuring resilience and modernization to meet capacity and service quality demands.
• Customer Support: Conduct studies and ensure compliance for customer load and distributed generation interconnections, providing technical guidance to support teams.
• Reliability Performance: Track and enhance regional distribution and sub-transmission reliability, promoting actions for improvement.
• Technical Expertise: Provide engineering support for high voltage customer load interconnections and ensure successful integration of distributed generation into the electric power system, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration: Work with various National Grid departments, including Electric Operations, Regional Control Centers and Distribution Design, to support integration of distributed generation, deployment of grid modernization, customer centric solutions and compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Industry Engagement: Represent National Grid in industry and regulatory groups, staying informed on trends and legislative developments.
• Problem Solving: Take responsibility for addressing issues promptly and effectively, while continuously seeking improvements in processes and performance.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

• Able to lead and supervise a project team or virtual teams to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; a Master’s degree or advanced certificate in an engineering discipline is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in an electric planning / design role.
• Licensure: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is preferred.
• Technical Skills: Experience in power flow software, such as Siemens PSS/E and CYME.
• Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license.

More Information

Salary:  $115,000 - $135,000
