National Grid is hiring a Engineering Manager, Electrical Planning and Design for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to one of our locations
Job Purpose
Transmission Engineering designs projects that improve the safety and reliability of the high-voltage electric system for our customers, now and in the future. Our team has a process driven and self-directed culture; solving diverse technical challenges for large, complex, multi-year projects. We are proud of how we respond to emergency situations in-the-moment by supporting restoration efforts and being there when our communities need us the most.
We are looking for a Transmission Engineering Manager to be a part of this talented team.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, motivate and develop a professional high-performance work team.
- Establish key priorities for the team and develop a strategy to execute.
- Ensure that the team deliverables are timely, feasible, and of superior quality. Includes monitoring and reporting on performance.
- Provide quality assurance that the work being performed is per National Grid and industry specifications and standards.
- Lead continuous improvement of engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Facilitate and encourage the introduction of innovative solutions and support standards to improve the delivery of capital projects.
- Promote a strong safety culture through leadership and being the ambassador of adhering to company procedures, safety rules, and work practices.
- Support storms and emergencies as required. Train self and staff to be prepared to execute roles assigned.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
- Strong leadership skills.
- Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with company personnel.
- Ability to drive teamwork in a collaborative, matrix organization.
- Ability to create a high energy team climate whereby team members can discuss relevant issues freely and where there is a strong emphasis on continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively problem solve challenges presented.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple project demands.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in relevant Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited engineering school.
- Completion of an MBA or Master’s Degree in a relevant engineering discipline desirable.
- Registered Professional Engineering (PE) License is preferred.
- Experience leading a technical team preferred.
- 7 or more years professional experience in transmission engineering or related engineering field is preferred.
- Strong engineering background with a deep understanding of transmission standards and work methods.
- Strong working knowledge of industry software, standards, safety requirements, and current design codes.
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.

Salary - $174,000 - $205,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
