Job Purpose
To support successful and on-time delivery of substation projects including supporting the capital investment plan, distribution and transmission interconnection projects, and other emerging work or new technologies. Substation projects include equipment replacement, asset separation, rebuilds and greenfield (new) substations.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure the timely development of distribution construction designs and plans in order to meet business plan goals.
- Interface externally with major industrial and commercial customers, as well as major residential developers, local inspection and approval authorities, and other external bodies.
- Ensure that designs adhere to company construction standards, and that the scope meets design requirements.
- Approve designs created by assigned represented employees, ensuring quality and functionality requirements are met.
- Work alongside work stream leads to ensure work streams are managing tasks and meeting project deadlines.
- Take responsibility for mobilizing and managing project teams, and delivering tangible business benefits.
Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required
• Demonstration of a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of personnel. Proven interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Demonstration of effective time management and task prioritization and capability to independently projects tasks and apply technical skills with minimal oversight
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited engineering program with an emphasis on Power Systems
• 10+ years of related Electrical Engineering work experience
• FE exam preferred. PE license is a plus
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project, CDEGS, Primavera and/or other similar software tools
• Knowledge of the following is desired: Substation Equipment including Transformers, Breakers, Switches, Reclosers, Metal Clad Switchgear, etc. Substation construction and maintenance techniques, Electric utility operation practices, Preliminary Analysis including AC and DC sizing, Grounding and Lightning study analysis
• Knowledge of industry standards, safety standards and existing electrical design codes including IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70, ASTM, NESC and Building Code
• Proficient Office 365 Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, etc.)
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy
• Ability to physically navigate in and around an electrical substation
• Ability to describe consequences of non-contractual performance by suppliers or by National Grid and the bottom-line impact

Salary: $150,000 - $176,000
