Job Purpose
The role will be responsible for the safety, compliance and improvement activities associated with field deployment of the overall NY AMI program. Prioritizes safety and compliance at the core of program execution, ensuring business activities are aligned with regulatory and National Grid safety objectives. The role will work proactively with internal and external stakeholders across multiple business units to influence safety and compliance outcomes, share best practices and collaborate to improve ways of working. The role represents the 1st line of assurance for field deployment contractors associated with AMI field deployment activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Participate, contribute, and collaborate with field deployment contractor(s) to improve safety and compliance performance (e.g., daily job briefs, safety stand downs, Standards reviews and updates, Safety Focus Day)
- Perform safety and compliance assessments of field deployment activities, focusing on the electric meter and gas module installations
- Lead touchpoints with installation contractor(s) to review safety and compliance performance (monthly safety roundtable, quarterly compliance reviews, annual safety plan progress report)
- Perform desktop and field assessments of field deployment activities to provide assurance and adherence to safety and compliance requirements and procedures. Examples include:
- Safety – Relevant job briefs, hazard awareness, traffic management, PPE, HASP requirements
- Compliance – Access to National Grid gas procedures, Awareness to applicable state/federal code, OQ verification, competent person, licenses/certifications.
- Input incidents, ESD’s, CA’s, NMGC’s and Incidents into IMS, including leading incident investigations as required.
- Monitor results of contractor safety and compliance KPIs via written reports to identify trends, communicate gaps and enable the process owners to act and improve controls. Reports may include IMS safety reports, compliance performance reports, trending analyses, Safety Plan performance tracking/development and other activities as requested.
- Engage with other assurance providers (e.g. Field Safety, Pipeline Safety/QAQC) to effectively coordinate efforts and share 1st line assurance results
- Provide recommendations and assist in development of corrective actions to improve the quality and safety of contractor performance
- Represent NY AMI as Safety Champion, collaborating with others across multiple business units to share best practices, lessons learned and new ways of working to improve safety.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical or business discipline and/or relevant engineering, safety (occupational, process, pipeline), construction or utility operations experience.
- 3+ years’ experience with demonstrated ability to communicate across organizational boundaries
- In-depth knowledge and deep operational experience in the utility business.
- Strong demonstrated skills in the following areas:
- Written and oral communications, including developing and executing communications through various mediums including verbal presentations, emails, PowerPoint, conference calls, and other appropriate methods
- Organization and management of multiple tasks / priorities to deliver high results
- Foster a collaborative environment focused on achieving outcomes.
- Experience of managing relationships and influencing across all organizational levels.
- Identifies relationships between sources of data such as cause and effect or trends.
- Displays commitment to safe and productive work environment through consistent actions, beliefs and personal conduct.
- Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history.

Salary
$93,000 - $109,000 a year
Salary commensurate with location and experience
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
