National Grid is hiring a Corporate Affairs Senior Business Partner. This role will be based out of our Waltham, Massachusetts and Boston, Massachusetts offices.  This is a hybrid role, with a mix of office and remote work within National Grid’s service territory.

Job Purpose

To support the VP Corporate Affairs in developing and implementing a forward-looking corporate affairs strategy for the New England business unit, ensuring alignment with functional and business-unit specific priorities. This role will provide best-in-class corporate affairs support and facilitate effective communication and stakeholder engagement.

Key Accountabilities

  • Act as deputy to the VP Corporate Affairs for the New England business unit, assisting in the development of a corporate affairs strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Ensure that the New England business unit receives comprehensive corporate affairs support by collaborating with Corporate Affairs Centers of Excellence (COEs) such as Public Affairs and Policy, Brand and Communications, and Social Impact.
  • Develop and lead the stakeholder engagement strategy for National Grid’s New England business, ensuring consistency with regulatory requirements and corporate priorities.
  • Provide strategic direction and implementation plans for engaging with key external stakeholders, including government agencies, regulators, community organizations, and business leaders.
  • Contribute to the development of the business unit’s overall strategic plan by providing insights and recommendations based on external trends and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate with Director of Strategic Communications to develop a communications strategy that aligns with National Grid standards and objectives.
  • Work with COEs to design and implement multi-channel influence campaigns, stakeholder engagement strategies, and partnerships.
  • Participate in discussions with other business units and National Grid group teams to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Attend business unit leadership meetings and engage with stakeholders, acting as deputy or proxy for the Head of Corporate Affairs as needed.
  • Support community engagement initiatives and sustainability programs in collaboration with the Social Impact and Community Engagement team, including strategies for environmental stewardship and social impact investment.
  • Provide strategic guidance to Corporate Affairs COEs on group strategy, standards, and frameworks.

Qualifications

    • Educated to degree level and/or with a professional qualification in a relevant discipline (business, communication, PR).
    • Proven track record in developing and implementing strategic plans that align with business objectives and stakeholder needs.
    • Demonstrated experience in engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, regulatory bodies, community groups, and internal teams.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across different business units and functions to achieve common goals.
    • Strong influencing skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
    • Strong analytical capabilities to assess data and trends, providing insights that inform strategic planning and decision-making.
    • Exceptional strategic and solution-driven thinker, adept at addressing organisational and behavioural challenges.
    • Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies that align with business objectives.
    • Proficiency in planning, executing, and evaluating projects related to corporate affairs and communications.
    • Experience in fostering a culture of teamwork and cooperation across different business units.
    • In-depth understanding of corporate affairs, public relations, and communications best practices.
    • Experience in leading and mentoring teams, fostering professional development and growth.
    • Strong self-starter, with excellent initiative, judgement, and strong influencing skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills including influence, communications and project management are pre-requisites as are excellent written skills
    • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities is a must; the candidate needs to be organized, detail oriented, resilient, and able to make independent decisions with a high degree of confidence
    • An ability to clearly articulate objectives, problems and asks and the presence to bring their own personality to the role are all important considerations
    • The ability, when appropriate, to challenge or push Leadership during critical thinking opportunities
    • Ability to anticipate needs based on patterns
    • Demonstrates the ability to interpret information and analyse relationships among several parts of a problem or situation to clearly articulate the findings and anticipates obstacles and thinks ahead about next steps
