Job Purpose

The Digital Business Lead is dedicated full-time to a single digital product (or two smaller products under specific circumstances), where they ensure that the digital product is aligned to the needs of the corresponding business throughout the product’s lifecycle. They provide strategic oversight to the digital product through several means,e.g., anticipating the work needed over the next few sprints, helping the team prioritize, anticipating and removing potential roadblocks for the team, engaging senior stakeholders within the BU to ensure buy-in, etc.

Key Accountabilities

  • Establish product vision, frame key issues, and set high-level product strategy
  • Ensure product definition aligns to business needs and delivers sufficient value
  • Lead strategic planning / oversight for the digital product, including future-looking assessment and contingent planning for potential pitfalls
  •  Ensure correct Business SMEs are on team, securing additional SMEs as needed
  •  Ensure that workload is balanced across the team (especially amongst Digital Business Strategists)
  •  Oversees vendor management, including managing the feature-level build/buy analysis
  •  Lead the sprint planning activities and approve final sprint plans
  •  Shape and define future-state operations solution (process, org change)
  •  Build & maintain robust business case for the product (incl. detailed value and cost estimates)
  •  Define quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) aligned with business and set key metrics to measure agreed upon OKRs (including alignment with leadership on appropriate metrics) 
  •  Approves launch strategy, comprehensive change mgmt. and product roll-out plan § Refine business strategy and test key assumptions based on market learnings 
  •  Manage and approve communications / key messages shared with senior stakeholders (incl. Digital Board) 
  •  Key liaison to the Digital Business Director (incl. activities such as providing product updates and identifying concerns) 
  •  Co-lead cross-functional product teams by clarifying requirements and delivery expectations with business stakeholders 
  •  Support definition of user groups and priority users for testing 
  •  Oversee definition of risky assumptions and corresponding experiments / pilots that will address these risky assumptions 
  •  Facilitates and drives alignment of key business decisions

 

Qualifications

General capabilities:

· Ability to build and lead teams, especially digital product teams

· Ability to make key decisions and/or influence key decision makers

· Ability to interface with the business to align on user tests, experiments, and value / business case

· Ability to articulate product and design needs to the business, then convey any subsequent feedback from business to the product team

· Ability to collaborate as part of cross-functional digital teams with multiple squads and workstreams

· Ability to work collaboratively with business stakeholders, product managers, and other team members to develop a business case, test assumptions, drive user adoption, and build a product roadmap

· Ability to create and present materials to senior stakeholders from different orgs

· Ability to design future-state processes and operations that address user frictions

· Ability to design a value tracking system and OKRs that are aligned with the business

· Knowledge of digital product implementation fundamentals, digital ways of working, and Agile methodologies

· Knowledge of how financial and regulatory environment within National Grid

· Knowledge of National Grid’s end-to-end workflows / processes and how different functions contribute to that

· Knowledge of National Grid’s org structure, including how different departments work together

 

Preferred experience:

· Experience in building and pressure-testing a business case (e.g., financial, non-financial and strategic benefits to the business) with relevant stakeholders

· Experience in change management and facilitating business transition to Agile ways of working

· Experience in developing / executing comprehensive product roll-out plan (including pre-launch activities) to drive adoption of new product

· Experience in defining, testing, and refining product assumptions

· Experience with workload capacity planning

· Experience with Maximo and/or Salesforce

· Minimum 5-7 years’ experience working on product teams or interfacing with product teams

· At least 2 years working with (or within) utility

 

Mandatory requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, or engineering
