National Grid is hiring a Principal Analyst, Regulatory Delivery and Strategy. This role can be based in our Brooklyn, NY or Waltham, Massachusetts offices. This is a hybrid role, with a mix of office and remote work.

Job Purpose

Successful candidates will be a key member of the Policy and Regulatory Strategy team for National Grid's NY and MA jurisdictions within National Grid's U.S. Policy and Regulatory Strategy Group. In the context of the changing energy landscape, this role will lead as a critical interface between the Company and its core regulatory stakeholders on all aspects of our company's clean energy future.  

 

Working directly with a team of regulatory analysts and alongside a wider strategy and policy team, this position combines: strategy development and execution, stakeholder engagement and negotiation, definition and oversight of analytical and quantitative analysis; identification of emerging policy and strategic questions throughout NGUSA; regulatory, market, and policy research; extensive written communication (e.g., memos, studies, regulatory filings, and legislative drafting);  and cross-functional collaboration within National Grid. 

 

The successful candidate will have a correspondingly balanced skill set and experience with the ability to articulate and gain support for the Company's vision and strategy, develop innovative regulatory proposals, negotiate successful outcomes for customers and the company, develop new areas of expertise, think creatively, and balance multiple competing demands. 

Key Accountabilities

• Lead discussions with key stakeholders on clean energy-related matters, including regulators, technology providers, academia, consumer advocates, environmental, and other public interest advocates. 

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to assess industry developments, identify core issues and their strategic implications, and drive alignment on recommended courses of action. 

• Distill complex information into clear and concise insights for senior leadership (e.g., presentations, memos, reports) and external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory testimony and other filings). 

• Lead and conduct quantitative analysis on topics such as cost recovery, policy implications, and customer bill impacts 

• Keep abreast of the latest relevant industry developments, develop new strategies to address emerging issues, and represent National Grid in relevant industry and public forums. 

• Develop or contribute to design and editing of legislation, regulation and tariffs that would govern new utility programs and activities. 

•  Support the leadership, motivation and development of a professional team of analysts to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and business objectives. 

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of energy experience or regulatory experience; electric or gas utility experience preferred. 

• Experience with energy utility regulation very strongly preferred (either direct utility employment experience or via consulting, regulatory entity, or focused coursework). 

• Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative analysis, including the ability to interpret complex data sets, develop financial models, and conduct statistical analyses to inform regulatory strategies and decision-making. 

• Understanding of current trends within the utility industry, particularly with regard to the energy transition, grid modernization/advanced meter infrastructure, distributed energy resources, and outcome/results-based ratemaking. 

• Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp complex issues and effectively integrate, compile, and analyze complex information and data. 

• Proven ability to communicate tactfully and effectively, both orally and in writing, and must be able to present information in a clear and concise manner to large groups, senior management, internal stakeholders, and external audiences. 

• Success in leading projects, working independently, handling multiple tasks, and determining priorities in a team environment. 

• Proficient in other relevant software, i.e., Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Salary

$142k - $160k a year in Waltham, MA.

$152k - $172k a year in Brooklyn, NY.
