 National Grid is hiring a Senior Designer for our Gas Project Engineering and Design group in Waltham, MA.

Job Purpose

Responsible for developing utility drawings and performing design related activities for complex capital gas projects. Projects include gas gate/regulator stations including associated distribution and transmission mains, large customer meter fits, flow diagrams, valve replacements, and LNG P&ID’s.  Majority of design work is mechanical, but does include the associated SCADA instrumentation and minor civil and electrical details.

Key Accountabilities

Prepare minor civil drawings for equipment foundations, buildings, etc.
Check drawings, specifications, and bills of material from contractors and manufacturers. Enforce drawing standards
across all projects and manage electronic project documentation and storage.
Prepare material lists, assist in material procurement, coordinate with equipment suppliers, and provide information to
support cost estimating. Assist in material verification.
Assist project engineer in development of construction work packages (development and compilation of drawings, forms,
maps, records, etc).
Provide support during construction and start-up of projects. Assist in development of as-built records for existing facilities
and capital projects.
Update LNG plant P&ID’s based on capital improvements.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required


  • Proficient communication skills and the ability to interface with others through all phases of a project.



-Associates Degree in drafting or engineering discipline required.

-AutoCAD experience required. CADWorx Plant Professional experience preferred.

-Experience with P&ID's required.

-Minimum of three-five years practical experience preferred.

-American Design Drafting Association and/or AutoDesk certifications preferred.

-Previous gas design experience and knowledge of gas equipment preferred.

-Proficient communication skills and the ability to interface with others through all phases of a project.

-Knowledge of Federal DOT, Massachusetts State Codes, and applicable industry codes/standards preferred.

Valid driver’s license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver policy.
