National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer, Electrical Planning and Design for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to Worcester, MA.

Job Purpose

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in engineering design, implementation, integration of electric transmission, distribution and sub-transmission electric metering related projects as well as supporting field troubleshooting of meters, meanwhile, to lead and develop CMS electric meter standards, CMS operating procedures and work method. This role also serves as a subject matter expert in supporting the development of the CMS related construction & material standard, and above all this position requires a good understanding of electrical safety.

Key Accountabilities

· To lead the strategic development through the technical implementation of National Grid Electric Meter Engineering and Design philosophy in developing standards, guidelines, work method and procedures for Customer Meter Service group in NE.

· To lead the development and maintain CMS related electrical standards, work method & operating procedures for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the CMS group in NE

· To identify risks associated with CMS day-to-day operation while put in place actions to ensure compliance with the applicable standards and regulatory requirements in accordance with OSHA and company safety handbook.

· To lead a team of CMS class A union representatives, meter engineers and CMS supervisors in technical discussions to facilitate the development of standards, work method and procedure.

· Support all requests for incident analysis (IAs) as a team member and complete action items assigned.

· Prepare comprehensive written and oral reports of technical problems, investigative findings, and engineering recommendations.

· Represent Meter Engineering NE as the project engineer responsible for designing, engineering, and specifying meter and related equipment for capital projects

· To provide support to review and update meter engineering related standards, guidelines, and specifications

· To support the land-line replacement effort for meter engineering NE

· To provide field support for CMS meter shop, PTO telecom NE for meter/ equipment damage/ failure etc.

· Undertake specific tasks to support meter engineering department in designing and delivering a technical solution

· Work independently with external National Grid customers to resolve meter related issues, provide engineering review to ensure compliance on new installations, and disseminate required information to proper internal organizations for new installations.

· Demonstrate National Grid leadership qualities with particular emphasis on bringing a strategic viewpoint on the activities of the team, including utilizing external best practices and engaging Electric Customer Meter Service stakeholders

· Response/ support storm related emergency restoration effort per the assigned storm role

Qualifications

· A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program with ten years related experience in electrical engineering & operations

· Advanced engineering degree(s) and/ or PE preferred

· Experience on the Customer Meter Service (electric) with a strong background in construction, operations, and maintenance is preferred

· Working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, NG safety handbook, and current electrical design codes (NEC), and National Electric Safety Code (NESC)

· Be familiar with regulatory standards, interpret and apply accordingly in the interest of the company

· Valid driver's license required with an acceptable driving record that meets National Grid’s Safe Driver Policy

· Able to travel throughout service territories and willing to work extended hours when the job requires, including system emergencies (storm duties)

Salary - $150,000 - $176,000
