About the job


We are looking for a Shift Officer who will:


  • Facilitate the throughput of Gas flow nominations from supplier terminals, shippers and delivery facility operators into the national transmission system via a multiple of methods.
  • Will actively maintain accurate site records, this will include shift log entries ensuring compliance across plant always.
  • Action the operational system in respect of gas quality and network entry agreements breaches and manage terminal flow advice notes when required.


As the Shift Officer, you’ll ensure the construction and commissioning of new assets onto the Gas Transmission system and other non-load related project works. You’ll identify the requirement to replace/upgrade existing plant and equipment, supporting with business cases preparation, initiation of design and the provision of technical support when required.


This role is based out of our St Fergus Terminal, a full valid driving license is required for this role allowing you to visit sites and customers when required.

Key Accountabilities


  • Communicate and liaise with National Grid’s Gas National Control Centre, supplier terminals to control gas throughput in accordance with National Grids local agreements and network code.
  • Manage the safe setting to work of all activities onsite under Nation Grid’s permit to work system, drive a safety culture of safe working & compliance in all work activities with NG policies / procedures.
  • Take part in emergency exercises to confirm robust emergent plans are in place
  • Maintain accurate shift log entries and operational records
  • Undertake as required incident investigations
  • Reviewing of RAM’s and issuing the required permit to work to Support the sites Capital delivery team in delivery of asset health works and capital replacement.
  • Review site operational emergency plans, local work instructions


  • Educated to minimum of HNC in a relevant engineering discipline, with significant relevant experience.
  • Valid current driving licence

What you'll get


A competitive salary between £36,000 – £45,000 – dependent on capability


As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
