An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Risk & Controls Lead to join our team on a full time, permanent basis! This role will be supporting National Grid’s Electricity Distribution (NGED) business in achieving its strategic objectives by providing high quality risk and controls services.

The Risk & Controls Lead will play a key role in advising and supporting risk management activities and providing control advisory services. You’ll be responsible for testing key controls, delivering second-line assurance across all risk areas, and ensuring risks are effectively managed. You’ll also be responsible for delivering specific assurance activities outlined within the assurance plan, helping to strengthen the overall risk framework.

 

This role is based out of our Bristol office, and we’d hope to see you at least 1-2 days per week but you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You'll Do

  • Drive and enhance NGED’s risk management maturity by actively supporting and embedding the National Grid risk management framework.
  • Lead in scheduling meetings with first-line risk and control owners, participating in walkthroughs with key stakeholders and documenting the end-to-end process in clear narrative format.
  • Support by conducting second-line controls testing, ensuring results are documented and reported accurately and consistently in alignment with established methodology.
  • Support first-line colleagues in successfully completing the Control Self-Assessment (CSA) process, providing clear guidance and expertise.
  • Support team members to prepare and present clear and concise risk/control/assurance reports and dashboards as required, including tracking Key Risk Indicators.
  • Deliver assigned assurance plans to time, quality, and ethical standards, proactively looking for areas of improvement and providing value adding and insightful recommendations that address control and process opportunities and issues.
  • Participate in all training sessions for the Archer GRC system and PowerBI to build expertise and ensure both first and second-line teams are effectively supported.
  • Oversee the follow-up and track the progress of remediation efforts for assurance findings, ensuring that the business addresses and resolves them in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Support the business to identify risk gaps and control deficiencies and work together to develop and implement effective mitigation strategies.

What You'll Have

  • Experience in a professional risk management field, audit/assurance, or related professional field, including experience working on Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) projects or teams within a large organisation.
  • Demonstrable knowledge in the development and practical application of Risk Management Frameworks.
  • Proven understanding in the execution of control self-assessment and/or assurance activities, including experience with control design and independent and objective controls testing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Comfortable working in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders which operate collaboratively and innovatively.
  • Inquisitive and curious mindset to identify and resolve issues as and when they arise.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with ease and efficiency.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information to all levels.

What You'll Get

Base Salary of £47,000 - £54,000 dependent on experience.
