CDM Advisor - North of England and North Wales

About the role

Would you like the opportunity to build a meaningful and fulfilling career while contributing to the safe delivery of electricity? This role offers considerable variety, involving different site locations and interactions with various personnel on those sites, including employees and contractors. 

As a member of the recently established Infrastructure, Delivery and Development (IDD) North team, you’ll apply your knowledge of the Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations 2015 to support the North regional delivery teams to deliver industry, ISO and National Grid procedural excellence and compliance.

Acting as a subject matter expert, you’ll provide guidance, consultation, and solutions across a range of projects within development and delivery from a CDM lens.  You’ll be a source of expertise providing specialist advice on construction activities, identifying the impact of legislation, drawings and CDM plans.  You'll also highlight challenges with site security, people and plant management in coordination with the construction phase plan and health and safety file.

Initially, you will support our physical site security portfolio, which includes the installation of physical cyber security equipment to sites across England and Wales. Over time, your role will expand to encompass broader aspects of the IDD business, which is essential for the growth and progression of CDM Advisor services.

You’ll ideally be based in the North of England or North Wales as you’ll be covering work across the whole portfolio.  You will travel from home to sites based throughout the region on a regular basis.

What you'll need

• Thorough knowledge of CDM in Construction & ISO compliance including knowledge of different duty holders’ responsibilities under CDM regulations.
• You’ll have worked in a comparable industry, or been involved in large scale utility construction projects, site management activities and site delivery.
• A good understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically in relation to Client, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor role.
• Experienced in the management and review of Contract documentation and awareness of Professional Services Framework Contracts (NEC4).
• Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels (including Senior Managers) & support the project teams in CDM.
• Ability to recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives and co-ordinate or ensure their implementation. Experienced in auditing and root cause analysis techniques. 
• A thorough understanding of the requirements of UK Health and Safety legislation generally, construction related Regulations and HSE Guidance specifically. 
• Health & Safety qualification - IOSH or NEBOSH Construction certificate or SMSTS.
• Full driving licence which allows you to drive in the UK.
