About the Role


Contract Manager (Cables - Viking Link Interconnector) - Solihull


This role is working on the Viking Link Interconnector Project to Denmark. Travel will be required within this region and occasionally to Mainland Europe.


The works are part of the Viking Link Interconnector Project, which will construct two HVDC Converter stations in Bicker Fen, Lincolnshire and Revsing, Jutland, Denmark via the World’s longest 525kV HVDC cable. The UK Onshore DC Cable stretches for 65km from near Sutton on Sea to Bicker and the AC Cable route from the Converter site to Bicker Fen 400kV is 2.5km. The Viking Link Project comprises a number of contracts including the installation of 525kV HVDC Converter Stations, 2 additional Bays in Bicker Fen 400kV, installation of HVDC 525kV and 400kV AC underground cables and supply of 525kV DC cable.

As the Contract Manager for Cables, you will play a key role in all commercial / contractual activities on the project. Working hand in hand with our JV Partner, Energinet. You will lead all aspects of contract management, claims and contractor payment on the project reporting to the Commercial and Regulation Manager. 

Main responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage contractual performance ensuring contractor and client-side obligations are understood and complied with
  • Accountable for the development of commercial strategy including execution of claims management and being the lead for the joint venture on the negotiation of all material variations to the contract leading other specialists including legal / financial advisers as appropriate.
  • You will act as the key contractual relationship manager with the offshore / onshore cable contractors relating to EPC and, non-EPC contracts 
  • You will provide guidance to the project manager and the supply chain management on contractual issues, provide contractual support and leadership on incoming and outgoing claims.
  • You will ensure the portfolio of contracts in the business, follows contract and claim management methodologies in accordance with internal standard procedures.
  • You will seek advice from Legal to draft, negotiate and finalize agreements during the Sales and Project Execution phases

About You


  • Commercial experience working on large EPC construction projects
  • Extensive knowledge of Contract forms, FIDIC / NEC / Construction Bespoke preferred 
  • Offshore Installation Methods and knowledge of working practices 
  • A Quantity Surveying background is desired, but not essential
  • Extensive claims / negotiating experience 
  • Financial acumen
  • Management experience
  • Good communication / negotiating / influencing skills 
  • The candidate will be required to travel internationally and domestically as and when required
  • Understanding of Interconnector products, services, contracts, commercial processes and legal/financial arrangements and how these pertain to the business and the JV environment


Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Degree / Master’s Degree or equivalent in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution or similar
  • MRICS / MCIArb other relevant Commercial or Engineering Chartership 

What You'll Get


A competitive salary between £56,000 - £68,000 – dependent on experience.


As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
