Job Purpose


We are looking for an experienced Software Developer to join us and make a real difference. An opportunity has risen working in the IT applications team that support NGEDs contact centre and are key to the journey of our 7.8 million customer’s experience when being without electricity.  You will be receiving the close mentorship, additional training and guidance required to realise your goals. Opportunities include database, GUI and cross-platform application development.

 

This role is based in Plymouth or Exeter. As part of our hybrid working approach and in line with our policy, this role allows you to apply for a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and subject to business need.

Key Accountabilities

You will work on tasks spanning all aspects of the software development lifecycle, both collaboratively and individually. You will join us in our relentless refining of the craft of software development: learning new technology stacks, adopting and adapting processes and best practices.

In an always learning environment you will collaborate with other teams and problem solve by coming up with creative solutions to requirements before transforming into functional elements. 

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, evolving and maintaining software and services 
  • Translating requirements into tasks and code
  • Testing and peer review of work produced by other team members 
  • Participate in the design of new systems and functionality 
  • Supporting the wider technical teams in the business 
  • Being adaptable to new technologies and challenges
     

 

Experience & Technical Knowhow

You will have an IT related degree or equivalent and have additional practical experience in an IT software development role.

 

A background in database or front-end development with appreciation of Cyber Security and understanding of secure development principles and practices.  You will have an understanding of relational databases and SQL and software development life cycles with source control and CI/CD. Experience with Oracle applications, Java and  API's will also help you succeed in this role.

 

Strong analytical and organisational skills as well as good interpersonal skills, self-confidence and personal drive are essential to be successful in this role along with a willingness , once suitably qualified, to participate in an out of hour’s standby working arrangement within the team.

 

Candidates may not necessarily possess all the skills required to carry out the role at present but should have the confidence and ability to reach the necessary standards with training.
 

 

What You'll Get

A competitive salary between £39,000 – £45,000 – dependent on capability
