Maintenance Technician

National Grid is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our Oil Management Unit (OMU), based in Doncaster. This role supports critical operations across the electricity transmission network, with a focus on transformer oil management and equipment maintenance. You’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with our Asset Operations teams on major transformer projects. Company car provided (Hybrid or full electric).
You’ll support the on-site engineer at the Doncaster Oil Treatment Facility with delivering on-site technical support and equipment services at substations throughout Central and Northern England, including North Wales. Approximately 50% of the role involves driving to substations across this region to complete on-site surveys and support for OMU equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
The remaining 50% involves planning LGV vehicle movements, oil refilling operations and ensuring compliance with operator licence requirements. As the Maintenance Technician you will also assist with ongoing maintenance, servicing, and fault diagnosis of OMU plant and equipment—both mechanical and electrical—at the Doncaster facility. The role includes regular travel and occasional overnight stays, supporting project delivery across a wide geographic area. Full training will also be provided on OMU equipment.

Requirements:
- NVQ L3 / ONC – Electrical or Mechanical qualification.
- Breakdown, repair and maintenance background ideally in an Industrial process environment.
- Team player – can work as part of a team.
- Can drive on a regular basis with occasional overnight stays.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

- IOSH / NEBOSH / LGV2

- A starting salary of £43,315 pa + paid overtime + bonus + company car.
