About the role

 

Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the OMU static oil processing units at respective OMU facilities. Ensure COTC compliance at the facility. Provide a safe working environment at the location, the effective delivery of allocated projects and compliance with all site requirements. Monitor environmental performance and requirements to provide assurance and compliance

What you'll be doing

 

  • Ensure that everyone is set to work in accordance with processes and procedures, including provision of risk assessments and method statements. Monitor the use of situational awareness risk assessments and ensure that tool box talks take place.
  • Carry out oil processing activities with the static plant and other associated tasks such as oil transfers between tankers and the tank farm.
  • Disassembly and decontamination of assets such as capacitors, resistors, CVT’s and other equipment.
  • Provide assistance to the OMU Engineer TCM to complete Environment Agency Quarterly Returns and Annual Reports and fulfil the on site hours requirement for COTC
  • Complete the acceptance, validation and sending of waste as required. Provide site monitoring for company and permitting purposes and maintain stock management at the facility.
  • Monitor work undertaken by contractors at the OMU ensuring the provision of risk assessments and method statements, tool box talks and sensible monitoring as required.
  • Provide fault finding and diagnostics on the static plant to ensure productivity and efficiency during the operation. Complete repairs such as pump replacements.
  • Carry out maintenance such as replacing filters, strainers and coellessors. Provide assistance with mobile support, towing equipment and flood defences deployment.
  • Provide cover and complete other duties at the OMU facilities as required including mobile tank preparation and maintenance, bushing oil and OMU site activities

What you'll need

 

Technical/Specialist Skills

 

    • Technical knowledge of oil processing plant and equipment for dehydration of transformer oils. Practical understanding of the operation of equipment, diagnostics and analysis of results.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and the Waste Management Licencing Regulations. Environmental knowledge in respect of hazardous waste, polychlorinated biphenyls and a proven ability to respond to emergency situations.
    • Knowledge and understanding of PUWER, LOLER, COSHH and Risk Assessment.
    • Demonstrate a self-help approach to common work related problems, using IS systems to resolve them.

 

Experiences

  • Sound understanding of National Grid’s operational policies, procedures and processes
  • Experience of plant fault finding / diagnosis and the ability to rectify

Requirements

Essential

  • Full driving licence
  • Fork Lift Truck licence to 5t
  • Level 4 Certificate of Technical Competence -  Waste Management Operations (Managing Treatment of Hazardous Waste)
  • IOSH Managing Safely

Desirable

  • HGV Class 1 or 2
