About the role
This key role will support detailed design and construction of the proposed HVDC converter station in Walpole West Norfolk region. It will be located in vicinity of existing Walpole Substation. Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) will efficiently connect Scottish offshore wind energy into National Grid’s transmission network. EGL4 HVDC link project is delivered as a joint venture by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and Scottish Power Transmission (SPT).
Making use of your civil engineering and project management acumen you will lead on the design of the electricity transmission system of the future across functional teams ensuring a smooth project delivery by working closely with our appointed Civil Contractor to deliver a successful outcome.
This new role will be key to a small but expanding team of project managers overseeing Converter Station Civil design and construction. EGL4 will include first time implementation of new civil techniques and methods for UK electricity transmission.
What you'll do
Calling upon significant prior engineering project management experience, this new role will support the delivery of our converter station. The role will require you to deliver / manage:
- Develop, implement, and manage project delivery, design, safety by design, commissioning, scheme closure and post-completion requirements in relation to the HVDC converter station or other works as required to successfully deliver the project.
- Produce project plans that comply with design principles, containing optimised scope and cost, taking into consideration health and safety issues and key business risks.
- Monitor and control the investment throughout the process providing regular project monthly status reports (including SHE performance, milestone progress, risk management) and accurate and timely financial forecasting information to support regulatory reporting, and business and capital planning.
- Manage and co-ordinate Contractors and project teams to successfully deliver projects to time, cost and specification and with minimal disruption.
- Monitor Contractor site activities to ensure compliance with National Grid and the JV’s SHES standards, Health & Safety, Environmental legislation and CDM regulations.
- Produce all required project documentation, ensuring governance is maintained throughout the investment process whilst also demonstrating the implementation of lessons learned and best practice.
- Manage the Contractor commissioning and performance testing process on site. Ensure the provision of accurate ‘as built’ documentation to handover of the assets onto the system to the standards defined in the design.
- Act as the NEC / FIDIC Project Manager as required.
About You
- A proven track record in building strong, enduring and effective relationships with key delivery partners in an electricity transmission or distribution business.
- Contract management experience either NEC or FIDIC
- Experience within civil engineering, construction or infrastructure sectors
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies
- Fully conversant with Health and Safety, Environmental and Planning regulations
- Willingness to work flexibly both in office and on-site
- Commitment to diversity
Qualification
- HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering
- Formal project management qualification/ Qualification in either Civil Engineering, Construction management or equivalent
- Member of a professional engineering institution (preferably chartered engineer with ICE, CIOB, RICS, CICES or working towards)

A competitive starting salary between c£51,899 - £65,000 – dependent on capability.
