About the roles

This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

The Strategic Infrastructure business unit is just over a year old, and is the growth engine for future transmission infrastructure investment in National Grid. It is responsible for delivering 17 projects set out in the ASTI framework, plus other new infrastructure needed to get the UK to Net Zero by 2050. Within this team, the Infrastructure Strategy Manager is a key role that will see you leading on important aspects of strategy and business planning like our portfolio strategy, our operating model and our sustainability strategy.

If you want to work on interesting strategic problems, influence senior decision-making, and have an outsized impact on making the energy transition happen in the UK, then this is the role for you.

“There is a real sense of excitement and clarity of purpose as we move towards Net Zero. We’re using this to transform the way we’ve always done things to make the energy transition happen!”
Joseph Northwood, Director of Portfolio Strategy & Development, Strategic Infrastructure

National Grid continues to offer hybrid working from office and home and are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

•    Assessing our operating model and making recommendations to ensure it remains fit for the future as we scale our organisation to proactively contribute to a deliverable energy transition

The primary activities that we would expect you to excel at are:

•    Applying strategic frameworks and concepts to create structure to help solve complex business problems
•    Leading qualitative & quantitative research and analysis to support decision making
•    Understanding our commercial and competitive environment, and developing structured and insightful recommendations
•    Engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to build consensus and generate buy-in for new ideas
•    Creating high quality Executive-level communications in briefing paper or slide form, and presenting these to senior audiences to share insights and shape strategic decision making.
