About The Role

 

 

Multiple New Roles – Permanent - Flexible Hybrid Working
 
 
This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people. 
You will help shape our plan to build a transmission network for Net Zero. As we build the projects that will make the energy transition happen, we’re looking for several individuals to join our teams and help us develop the business case for our projects. We are recruiting for Business Case Leads and a Project Development Leads. 
 
The roles will sit within Portfolio Strategy and Development as part of team growth. 
 
The Project Development Lead will be leading the assessment and development of projects for delivery options. This includes involvement in multiple workstreams impacting the high level and detailed initial project development.
 
The Business Case Lead will lead on the creation of the initial business case for projects. It is also expected that you will be developing the methods and applying a societal impact inclusive cost benefit analysis. You will be expected to provide expert advice to project teams for the development of full business cases. 
 
 
Finally you’ll be supporting the Investment Case and Project Development Managers in developing the business case framework.

These roles are based at our Warwick (free parking) office and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. 
 
Leveraging this hybrid working, this team currently works around 1-2 days per fortnight in the office, which is flexible and dependent on personal and business needs.

About You

•    The ability to utilise spreadsheets and databases to interpret, manipulate and extract data from large data sets
•    Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and communication skills
•    Experience in developing business cases and developing and applying cost benefit analysis models to assess project delivery options

 

Experience/ knowledge of the energy sector is not essential, but what is essential is curiosity, appetite for learning and a passion for the work National Grid and particularly Strategic Infrastructure in boosting our capacity to reach Net Zero. 

For the Project Development Lead role a power systems or engineering background would be advantageous.

What You'll Do

 

 

For both roles our hiring managers have indicated 3 core duties including: 

 

Developing the initial business case for projects and hand it over to delivery teams.
Coordinating with internal stakeholders (consenting, lands, external affairs, procurement and all construction project related teams) to collect relevant information for the development of robust business cases.
Additionally you’ll be invited to identify new digital improvements to aid decision making and data management, mentor new graduates planned for a 2024 start and represent National Grid in external forums.

 

For the Project Development Lead our hiring manager indicated an additional 3 core duties including: 


•    As part of the initial business case for projects, develop and assess delivery options including project cost, delivery timescales and programme development. 
•    As part of early stage development for projects, carry out a high level project optioneering; looking into routing, outages, interdependencies with other projects and other aspects.
•    Engagement with digital teams to identify and use available technologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of project development.

 

 

For the Business Case Lead specifically, our hiring manager indicated an additional 2 core duties including:

 


•    Providing guidance and support to internal teams on the development of the full business case for projects.
•    Developing methodologies to quantify how societal benefits can be included in our Cost Benefit Analysis to ultimately enhance the decision-making process for our projects.

What You'll Get

 

 

A competitive starting salary between £44,000 – £60,000 dependent on capability.
