About the role

Help drive efficiency in the green energy transition

We are looking for Lead Quantity Surveyors to join our Infrastructure Development and Delivery (ID&D) team. (Hybrid working approach with a mix of home, site and office working.)

As owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network, we take green energy seriously. Between now and 2026 we’re investing £29 billion into the decarbonisation of energy systems.

Would you like to be involved in this vital transition? If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor who wants more responsibility and the chance to work on high-value, complex schemes, we’d like to hear from you.  You’ll be providing commercial and contractual support to project teams on large- scale infrastructure projects within our ID&D team.

Our customers include everyone who uses electricity in England and Wales. Acting on behalf of these people, you’ll help ensure that we deliver our projects in the most commercially effective way.

You’ll enjoy great variety and the chance to work on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, providing crucial commercial guidance across numerous schemes at any given time.

The role could provide you with a fantastic steppingstone into management. As a Lead Quantity Surveyor, you will be the link between management and more junior Quantity Surveyors, and you may also be responsible for the line management of a small team.
You’ll be welcomed into our diverse, inclusive organisation that has recently won an Institution of Engineering and Technology silver award for our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programme. If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, we look forward to talking to you very soon.

This is a varied role and you’ll be involved with Contract management, financial reporting and supporting Junior QS development.  You’ll be involved at Precontract and Post contract stages.

What you'll need

Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event. You can analyse complex disputes to arrive at a reasoned decision and are flexible enough to pick up new challenges at short notice.

You can deal positively with people at all levels of the business, including management, succinctly presenting facts, and providing contractual advice. You’re able to mentor others and develop their skills to build the overall capability of a team.

You are confident in making independent decisions using your own skill and judgement, and willing to challenge the decisions made by others.

You have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law. You have extensive experience of quantity surveying and a strong understanding of NEC contracts.

We’d like you to already be a Chartered Surveyor, or at least working towards becoming one and you’ll have experience on large scale NEC infrastructure projects.

You also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. There is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to site as and when required, but as part of our hybrid working model, you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home, at a National Grid office, or site.

What's in it for you?
