About the role

As a Product Engineering Director, you will be responsible for the product development process for your product-line or business unit, working closely with your management team, product directors, UI/UX directors, and key stakeholders across the organization to create a high performing team and build the best products for your customer. You will actively contribute to the success of the team by guiding your engineering managers to ideal processes and support infrastructure for their teams, participating in architectural discussions, and working closely with your engineering leadership to establish standards and practices to ensure high quality product delivery.

Key Accountabilities

  • Facilitates the building of prototypes and quickly removes impediments
  • Anticipates resource gaps and plans ahead to ensure consistent staffing in product teams
  • Ensure that engineers have dedicated time to progress their own development 
  • Ensure that engineers have a balance of time between product and innovation to effectively progress the organizational technical agenda
  • Works with engineering colleagues across NG to understand and influence company wide technologies and frameworks
  • Responsible for the output of their own or multiple engineering teams
  • Ensures team members are focused on the correct priorities
  • Owns the process of adoption of software engineering practices across engineering teams 
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining the performance of the team
  • Provides support for senior engineering management responsibilities when necessary
  • Owns the hiring / promotion of talent to their engineering teams
     

 

About you

  • Strong experience as a software engineer and manager
  • Strong knowledge of industry best practice in one or more programming languages and technology stacks
  • Thorough knowledge and commercial experience in the usage and implementation of cloud based solutions and products, containerisation products, and traditional on-premise server and virtualisation solutions.
  • Understands and can challenge complex architectures brought forward by principal engineers and enterprise architects
