National Grid is hiring a Policy Manager for a 7 month FTC. This position can be based at NG House, Warwick or the Strand, London.
Job Purpose
As a Public Affairs & Policy Specialist, you will play a crucial role in delivering integrated campaigns on strategic issues that matter. You will work closely with the Senior Policy Manager to shape policy messages and support corporate strategic campaigns. Your expertise will help us engage effectively with parliamentarians, government officials, think tanks, and other influential groups.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with the Senior Policy Manager to develop and execute impactful campaigns that align with our strategic goals.
- Partner with the Corporate Communications & Brand team to tailor policy messages and engage stakeholders effectively.
- Build and maintain a robust network of external contacts to promote National Grid’s interests and share valuable insights.
- Attend external functions and networking events to create opportunities for proactive policy influence.
- Draft responses to government consultations and parliamentary inquiries, ensuring alignment with our strategic campaigns.
- Analyze policy developments and provide timely intelligence to internal stakeholders, helping us navigate opportunities and threats.
- Conduct horizon scanning and issues management, taking ownership of key messages that resonate with our audience.
- Track progress against KPIs and report findings to the Head of Public Affairs & Policy.
About You
- Proven experience in Public Affairs & Policy, with a strong understanding of political positioning and integrated campaigning.
- A track record of successfully communicating policy messages to diverse audiences.
- Experience in coordinating policy engagement across various stakeholders and measuring outcomes.
- Knowledge of the parliamentary and political landscape, particularly in relation to the utilities sector.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present confidently and credibly.
- A strategic thinker who can interpret trends and contribute to key policy decisions.

- Competitive Salary: circa £59,000 – £72,000 per annum (dependent on location, capability, and experience)

This role is offered on a 7 month Fixed Term Contract
We are also offering hybrid /flexible working where travel to the office will be as per business need. Base location for this role will be NG House, Warwick or the Strand, London.
