In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with our Sustainability and Responsible Business teams to help shape and implement the Group’s ESG disclosure strategy.
Reporting to the ESG Controller, you will be integral in helping to ensure National Grid’s internal and external ESG reporting maintains pace with evolving market practices and legal requirements. You’ll automate sustainability data processes, ensuring accuracy and audit readiness, while serving as a key liaison between Finance and Sustainability. Additionally, you will lead the integration of the Workiva platform in ESG reporting and coordinate with our external ESG assurance provider.
This role is based at our Strand office with an expectation of around two in-office days per week—specific days to be agreed with your team. You're welcome to come in more often, and we're happy to discuss any flexibility needed to support your working preferences.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaborate with Sustainability teams to develop and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of ESG disclosures.
- Maintain sustainability reporting policies for the Group’s Annual Report and other publications, adhering to TCFD, ISSB, GRI and other relevant standards.
- Monitor sustainability reporting developments and engage stakeholders to enhance disclosure quality.
- Oversee the ESG reporting process via the Workiva platform, ensuring effective integration across workflows.
- Drive automation of ESG data collection and reporting, acting as the primary liaison between Finance, Group IT and the Sustainability team on the implementation of the ESG data automation project(s) to enhance data accuracy, timeliness, and insights.
- Ensure compliance with TCFD, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, and other regulatory sustainability requirements.
- Verify the integrity of sustainability data in collaboration with the Group and Business Units sustainability and responsible business teams
- Monitoring changes in reporting standards and regulations (e.g. the ISSB stand-ards, TPT etc, where applicable), performing gap analyses of current reporting vs. proposed and assisting in the roll out of these.
- Addressing and resolving reporting issues raised by the Group’s external ESG assurance provider with regards to sustainability disclosures within the Group reports.
- Experience working with and submitting responses to sustainability ratings agencies such as CDP, ISS, and S&P.
What You'll Have:
- Strong experience in ESG reporting with an audit and / or industry experience in a sustainability/ESG related role within a multi-national company.
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ICAEW or CIMA) – preferred, not essential
- Collaborative and influential with a proactive mindset and attention to detail.
- Proactively builds relationships and drive accountability.
- Comfortable delivering complex sustainability concepts to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills, leveraging data to address complex issues.
- Experience with formal assurance processes and data coordination for impactful communication.
- Ability to balance detail orientation with a strategic perspective.
- Committed to contributing to a high-performing, collaborative team culture.
- Navigates ambiguity and prioritises tasks in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple stakeholder needs.

A competitive salary – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance with on target being 20% (with a maximum of 40%) and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
