Requisition Number:  66257
Department:  Electricity Transmission - Non-Operations

About You

The UK has set out its ambition to be net zero by 2050 and the energy industry is responding – together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain.

This is a brand new role, joining us to focus on one of our major Great Grid Upgrade projects, Eastern Green Link 3 (EGL 3)

You’ll be working within the delivery team, bringing your excellent knowledge of offshore cable installation and passion for our ambition.

As an Offshore Installation Engineer, you will give technical input and provide quality management across EGL3, providing support in the design, engineering, and delivery of subsea cables.

You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including survey contractors, consultants, Project Managers, and joint-venture partners to provide your expertise with industry practices and standards covering the full-life cycle of offshore cable installation.

Our team are based all over the UK so you’ll mostly be home based. We have modern offices based in central locations when you want to get together including Glasgow, Birmingham, Warwick and London. All accessible by public transport or car if needed.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

About You

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in the full life cycle of submarine cable installation;
  • Experience of offshore industry standard survey and cable laying equipment, vessels, and mobilisation;
  • Knowledge of working on survey and cable laying vessels.

Additionally, you may have experience of GIS software, experience in cable route design or experience of HDD design and installation and associated shore-end related activities.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.

What You'll Do

You’ll be technical point of contact for the contractor, PM, and wider team on EGL3 for all offshore installation related activities and lead improvements to specifications, workflows, and processes, including identifying lessons learned and new technologies.

Additionally, you’ll lead technical discussions relating to scope changes, concessions, or deviations and provide challenge and review to contractor and consultant documentation, processes, and quality.

You will co-ordinate and develop project technical documentation as directed by the Project Manager and proactively promote safe working and full compliance with SHEQ standards.

What You'll Get

A competitive starting salary between £65,000 – £75,000 dependent on capability, with progression available in post.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

You will also have access to several flexible benefits such as contributory medical allowance, bank holiday exchanges, a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few!
