About the Role

Imagine being paid over £23,000 a year while you train, with free food, accommodation, and travel included. The training is carried out through a combination of courses run at our Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence and on-site training.
Our three-year Advanced Apprenticeship will train you to become an Overhead Lines Power Network Craftsperson, providing site support to our electrical power network. You'll play a crucial role in the safe construction, maintenance, and repair of the UK's power network, ensuring a reliable supply of electricity to the country. This dynamic role will take you to various locations across our network.
As an Advanced Apprentice, you'll experience a fast-paced and varied work life. No two days will be the same. Some of the tasks you can expect to be involved in include:
• Working in accordance with safe practices and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring safety while working at heights.
• Climbing steel towers to install, maintain, test, repair, and dismantle overhead line equipment, solving problems with an organized and practical approach.
• Operating vehicles equipped with tools and materials, traveling to remote job sites.
• Safely operating plant and equipment like winches, Telehandlers, and MEWPs.
• Shadowing experienced linespersons to gain new skills and knowledge in the field.
• Receiving training at our Training Facility in Eakring (Nottinghamshire) to enhance your skills and knowledge.
• Working outdoors in various locations, embracing different weather conditions.
• Collaborating as an enthusiastic team player to achieve challenging tasks.
• Receiving Health and Safety training leading to role-specific authorizations.
• Being away from home and working in different zones/geographical areas to develop your skills.
By the end of the programme, you'll hold a Level 3 qualification as a Power Industry Overhead Lines Person, and most importantly, have a job waiting for you!
About You
You must live within 45 minutes of IP8 4JL to be considered for this role
You're driven, proactive, and always seeking ways to improve. Building on your existing knowledge and skills is second nature to you, and you have the enthusiasm to take things to the next level. Communication comes naturally to you, and you know how to adapt your approach to connect with different people.
As a flexible multitasker, you can handle multiple responsibilities while paying great attention to detail. Academic brilliance isn't the only thing we're looking for; we value practical individuals with engineering mindsets who are eager to apply themselves.
Here's what you'll need:
• Five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including passes in Maths and English Language (grades 4/C or above) OR a Level 2 Pass in Functional Skills.
• You must be able to live away from home; primarily at our Eakring academy in Nottinghamshire.
• By the end of your first year, you’ll need a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.
