About the Role

Imagine being paid over £29,000 a year while you train, with free food, accommodation, and travel included. The training is carried out through a combination of courses run at our Global Technical Training Centre of Excellence and on-site training. 

 

 


Our three-year Higher Apprenticeship Overhead Line programme will train you to become an engineer in one of our Overhead Line teams.  

 

 


During the programme you'll gain comprehensive knowledge of Overhead Lines, the types of conductors, fittings and insulator systems that are installed. You’ll also gain knowledge regarding safety from the system, general safety, overhead line refurbishment & maintenance methods, technical support, 3rd Party requests and fault fixing.  

 

 


This is A job where the decisions you make will impact the transmission of electricity in England and Wales for the next 40 or 50 years. You'll be involved in delivering maintenance work, replacing and refurbishing assets, and resolving mechanical and electrical issues. Your role will also contribute to connecting renewable energy from sources like wind and solar farms to the transmission network.

 

 


Eventually, you may even be an Overhead Line Project Leader and taking responsibility for the safety of your co-workers

 

 

By the end of the programme, you'll hold an industry recognised Level 4 qualification, and most importantly, have a job waiting for you!

About You

 

You must live within 45 minutes of WV10 7JB to be considered for this role. 

 

 

You're driven, proactive, and always seeking ways to improve. Building on your existing knowledge and skills is second nature to you, and you have the enthusiasm to take things to the next level. Communication comes naturally to you, and you know how to adapt your approach to connect with different people.

 

 

As a flexible multitasker, you can handle multiple responsibilities while paying great attention to detail. Academic brilliance isn't the only thing we're looking for; we value practical individuals with engineering mindsets who are eager to apply themselves.

 

 


Here's what you'll need:

•      Two A-Levels, with a grade of C or above in Maths or Physics, or an equivalent Level 3 qualification with a pass, which includes a Maths or Engineering module.
•      Five GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including passes in Maths and English Language (grades 4/C or above) OR a Level 2 Pass in Functional Skills. 
•      You must be able to live away from home; primarily at our Eakring academy in Nottinghamshire. 
•      By the end of your first year, you’ll need a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.
