Project Engineer

Location:

GB

Division:  Offshore Delivery
Job Type:  Full Time
Requisition Number:  67497
Department:  Electricity Transmission - Operations
Job Function:  Capital Project Delivery

About the role

Join us and help deliver world-class HVDC projects that will shape the future of the UK’s transmission system.

Strategic Infrastructure is developing and constructing a series of HVDC projects along the east coast of Great Britain. These projects play a vital part in achieving the UK Government’s ambition of connecting 50GW of offshore wind by 2030.

That's why we’re looking for Project Engineers to develop and coordinate activities, across projects within the Offshore Portfolio. You'll work closely with other Project Engineers to ensure interfaces across projects are managed holistically.

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge and experience to facilitate the development of major infrastructure projects. This includes engaging effectively with stakeholders and managing interfaces across the project. You'll play a key role to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of projects, whilst minimising risks to successful delivery.

Our project portfolio will scale up the UK’s capacity to transport home-produced clean energy, predominantly from offshore wind, from where it is generated to where there is demand. By doing so it will increase the security, resilience, and stability of the UK’s transmission network. That’s a job anyone can be proud of.

In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to regular travel throughout England and Scotland, depending on the project.

Project Level Key Interfaces include:

  • Converter Station to HVAC Cables.
  • Adjacent AC Substation connections including HVAC Cables / Overhead Line from Converter Station.
  • Associated Transmission Operator (TO) work packages, e.g. provision of telecommunications etc.
  • Interfaces with other neighbouring projects (identifying and tracking interdependencies and conflicts).

Key accountabilities

  • Promoting a strong emphasis on Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) compliance and ensuring the highest standards of SHEQ are maintained.
  • Coordinating engineering interfaces between work packages, internally (NG only or between joint venture partners) and externally with other neighbouring projects, in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Participating in the engineering development and delivery of projects.
  • Managing interface engineering activities as defined in the project programme, identifying any risks and issues, propose mitigating activities and escalate as required.
  • Managing and maintaining interface registers/schedules, tracking progress of each item and including on the project risk register as appropriate.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of a safe, cost effective and compliant design.

About you

  • Degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Awareness of UK Health and Safety legislation and the specific regulations which apply to engineering and construction projects.
  • Demonstrable experience gained across a range of engineering infrastructure type projects from participating as a member of project teams on complex projects.
  • Understanding of the engineering processes associated with the development of major strategic infrastructure projects.
  • Good influencing, negotiating and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas from 33 kV to 400 kV:
    • Delivery of strategic electricity transmission network construction projects
    • Switchgear/transformers/transmission and/or distribution electrical system design
    • Civil design
    • Main plant design
    • Protection and control design
    • Overhead Line (OHL) and cable design
    • HVDC systems
