As a Quantity Surveyor you will provide commercial and contractual support to project teams on large scale infrastructure projects. Acting on behalf of our customers, you will help deliver projects in the most commercially effective way.
Across the country we have a number of Quantity Surveyor positions that require varying levels of experience. Some are suitable for those who want to step up from a junior level position to take responsibility for their own projects. Others are appropriate for more experienced Quantity Surveyors would like to work on high-value, complex schemes.
All roles provide the opportunity to gain experience in a variety of tasks on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy. Whether you want to take a strategic, technical, commercial, procurement or project management route, you will be supported to develop the necessary skills.
This role will be based in Yorkshire, with the requirement to be based within one hour of Leeds or Selby, Yorkshire, and work from the Crossgates office 2 /3 days per week.
We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
About you

- Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event. When you do arrive at a contractual decision you can back your own judgement, confident that you have completed all the necessary steps. You are also an effective communicator who’s unafraid to ask for help.
- You have previous experience as an Associate or Junior Quantity Surveyor and a strong understanding of NEC contracts.
- Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential. For example, you might have a contractor or consultant background.
- You are able to travel to site as required (candidate must live within 1hr of Drax or Leeds), and have the flexibility to work from home, a National Grid office, or site.

What you'll do
- Taking the lead in reviewing entitlements and assessing the time and cost impact of compensation events.
- Leading the payment application process.
- Ensuring compliance with both of the above, within relevant contractual timescales.
- Leading the development and management of cost forecasts.
- With guidance from Lead Quantity Surveyors, taking responsibility for the effective administration of large-scale infrastructure projects. Depending on the size of the scheme, you may be responsible for an entire contract, or work as part of a wider team.
- Leading in the cost audits of certain projects.
- Providing contractual and commercial advice to Project Managers and assisting the Lead Quantity Surveyor in dispute resolution.
- Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts.
- Taking the lead in contract risk reviews, including maintaining and updating risk management software.
- Assisting in ensuring project compliance with National Grid governance processes.
- Building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including Project Managers, Planners, Senior Quantity Surveyors and contractors.
- Ensuring good communication between stakeholders. Communicating succinctly and consistently, you will reach out to senior stakeholders for assistance when it is needed.
- Helping support and mentor Associate Quantity Surveyors as required.
- Providing support during procurement events, such as tenders for contractors to be awarded the contract for a project or portfolio of works.
- Leading on the commercial assessment of tenders. Working as part of the commercial team on major portfolios of work.
- Advising on the most suitable procurement route. Leading negotiations on contract deviations, depending on the nature of the contract.
- Working with the procurement team to ensure that internal and procurement processes are adhered to.
What you'll get
A competitive salary up to £65,000 – dependent on capability.
