About The Role
The UK has set out its ambition to be net zero by 2050 and the energy industry is responding – together we are building a cleaner, greener Britain.
The new role has arisen as a result of an internal move and so we are seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team working on one of our headline projects, Eastern Greenlink 1 (EGL1)
You’ll join a dedicated and passionate team of around 7 Quantity/ Senior Quantity Surveyors working on this major project spanning eastern Scotland and England, with operational go-live scheduled for 2029.
Our team are geographically dispersed with the line manager is based in the North West with other team members based around the Midlands and North East. As such applications are welcome from people across geographies. We continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.
Leveraging this hybrid working, this team typically get together once per month using several different offices including Edinburgh, Leeds, Warwick and County Durham.

Personal and Interpersonal skills:
• Good stakeholder management skills & ability to build strong relationships across multiple teams quickly.
• Strong prioritisation skills and attention to detail.
Technical Skills:
• Experience in leading on your own packages of work and several contracts, as part of a large scale project.
• Experience in providing cost assurance and administration of engineering projects carried out under the FIDIC, NEC and bespoke form of Contract.
• Experience in contract and risk management in a Construction environment.
• Commercial acumen and supply chain management skills.
• Experience in cost analysis, cashflow forecast, programme evaluation and tendering and letter drafting.
• Proficient knowledge of earned value management, monitoring cost performance and baselining.
• Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word and Excel, include developing spreadsheets, cost analysis and programme evaluation.
• Knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System (not essential).
• Ability to write contractual letters and communications.
• Ability to prepare reports and collect information.

What You'll Do
You’ll have 4 distinct and equally weighted areas of responsibility:
PROCUREMENT AND TENDERING
• Act as the Contracts and Commercial Team representative on tender and procurement events.
• Providing guidance on commercial and contract management considerations and advising on contract options and budget estimates, including risk and contingency allowances.
• With a Value for Money mindset, challenge tender return evaluations, support tender negotiations, and Contract Award.
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
• Support and provide advice on implementing administrative procedures necessary to run a construction contract, including, but not limited to, contract administration, cost risk analysis, dispute procedures, reporting procedures, etc.
• Carrying out the contractual mechanisms and procedures relevant to your project, such as risk management, KPI, contractual communications, change procedures, valuations, loss and expense and final accounts.
• Attending related meetings and site visits to support the Project Team in commercial and contractual matters.
• Carry out due diligence, assurance & audit of the assigned projects, including ensuring consistent processes are followed, safe storage of data, keeping on top of contractual communication’s time frame, ensuring contractual risks are tracked, and the relevant issues are escalated through the reporting line.
• Ensure consistent quality and accurate output from the tasks.
• Supporting any escalation procedures and dispute avoidance, and resolution processes.
COST CONTROL AND REPORTING
• Prepare, monitor, maintain, report and advise on project cashflows.
• Evaluate and advise on the financial implications and appropriate management actions.
• Lead the preparation and give advice on budget estimates, including risk and contingency allowance, at all stages of the project lifecycle.
• Ensure the commercial processes (incl. detailed cost reports) and internal governance requirements (including change requests) are adhered to at all stages of the project lifecycle.
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
· Working with both internal & external stakeholders, including providing support on regulatory requirements.
· Build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders and functions, including Project Managers, Planners, Accountants, Operational colleagues, Contractors, Procurement, Regulation, Legal, Specialists and any other stakeholders required by the project as needed.
What You'll Get
A competitive starting salary between £52,000 – £65,000 dependent on capability, plus non performance based annual payment of £3000 and brand-new company car for company and personal use.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
