Exciting leadership opportunity: A pivotal role in ensuring a secure electricity supply for the capital city.
As the Head Of Substations and Cables for London, you will lead a team of over 250 engineering, technical managers and staff across multi-disciplined teams to deliver critical operational, engineering and construction projects aimed at powering the capital now and into the future, ensuring the highest safety standards for both team members and the public.
This role carries a critical responsibility for delivering reliable and resilient service to local communities across London and beyond, and links into cross functional London resilience forums to provide the confidence required for the capital city. You will be a visible leader, closely engaged with your teams and serving as the voice of operations for the London teams. You will be entrusted with significant accountability and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact to peoples lives today, and to the delivery of a net zero future for the UK.
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking leader to take on senior operational responsibility for the 24/7 management of the electricity transmission network across the London area, inside and around the M25. You will have accountability for a budget exceeding £100m/yr and manage 40+ Transmission Substation locations, plus a further 40+ off-site locations, as well as ownership of the substantial London transmission cable and tunnel network. This role requires strategic oversight to guarantee seamless operations and reliability.
Key requirements
• Degree or equivalent experience in relevant STEM discipline.
• Experienced in real-time operational delivery, proven leadership of direct reports and wider multi-disciplined engineering teams, with a strong commitment to safety and creating a safe working environment.
• Budget and commercial management – OPEX and CAPEX (large project portfolio delivery)
• Stakeholder and customer engagement.
• Experience of supporting teams through change and delivering continuous improvement.
Pay and Benefits
• A median salary level of £104,000 pa plus 20% annual performance bonus & annual salary benchmarking
