About the role

Grain Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal is Critical National Infrastructure which is part of the National Energy system providing sercure and stable energy powering all that live in the UK and even Europe. We are the largest terminal in Europe and eighth largest in the world by tank capacity with a site that spans over 600 acres in total. Your role within the HSE team will be to support the terminal in delivering gas as safely as possible whilst ensuring our impact to our local communities and the environment is as low as possible. You will actively engage with all teams across the site as well as represent Grain LNG to our many external stakeholders maintaining and building upon our world class reputation.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the National Grid Grain Health Safety & Environment team! You will be part of a team that works with all other teams at Grain to ensure that this piece of Critical National Infrastructure continues to deliver up to 30% of the UK’s gas demand. Within this role you will be exposed to all aspects of safety, environmental and sustainability compliance, and development at Grain LNG. You will cover everything from Major Accident Hazards to ensuring a good behavioural safety culture preventing accidents that effect the individual, all whilst ensuring this is all achieved without harming the environment by assisting in the development and implementation of the terminal ‘s NetZero roadmap whilst working closely other disciplines across the terminal.

 

  • Develop / Assist in development safety and environmental management systems to ensure compliance to COMAH and the site Environmental permit
  • Manage visiting contractors undertaking periodic maintenance and improvements to on-site safety and environmental equipment
  • Data analysis of process operations, safety system demands site energy use and emissions
  • Attend and contribute to process safety hazard analysis studies including HAZOP, LOPA, Human Reliability Analysis, FMECA and others
  • Attend lean production meetings on site to facilitate reduction of waste in business processes. Develop and manage key performance indicators for KPI development
  • Support the terminal project teams delivering the CAP 25 expansion project with safety and environmental queries and terminal readiness tasks
  • Where assigned manage and close HAZOP, LOPA, and safety study actions
  • Field on site safety and environmental engineering queries

As you’ll be joining our 18-month graduate programme, you’ll have a tailored development pathway to support you as you develop a wide range of leadership, business, and technical skills. You’ll attend in-person and virtual development sessions throughout your programme to equip you with the essential skills required, as you begin your career at National Grid. We’re committed to the personal development of our colleagues so as well as the support from your line manager as you navigate your new role, you’ll also have access to 121 coaching and a mentor, from a previous cohort to help you transition from campus to corporate life. 


All graduates complete the core development programme to develop key skills such as how to make an impact, giving feedback and presentation skills. Aligned to this role is our Engineering pathway and as part of this you’ll develop further key technical skills aligned to your role as well as important learning modules such as working safely. If relevant to your career aspirations, you will be able to access Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) membership and seek support from a National Grid IET mentor to help you secure your chartership. 

 
We believe in the importance of getting as much on-the-job experience as possible and to do this, you will complete three 6-month placements, across the UK, designed to deepen your understanding of your speciality but to also broaden your knowledge of our business. At the end of your 18-month programme you’ll return to your initial placement area to kickstart your superpowered career.

What you'll need to apply

 

You'll need to achieve a minimum 2:2 in an Engineering related degree. It doesn’t matter when you graduated or if you are currently working towards your qualification. We just need you to be eager to apply your knowledge in a real-world setting.
 
 
You’ll need flexibility to travel within role and throughout your rotations as required.

This specific role will be solely based in Isle of Grain LNG Terminal, Wallend, Rochester ME3 0AB and will offer flexible hybrid working, where possible.
