Would you like a job where no two days are the same?  As a self-starter, you’ll be responsible for your own day.  Actively engaging, coaching and positively influencing staff, managers and contractors on SHEQ performance and risk management, you’ll promote a positive safety and quality culture, to achieve and sustain a world class health and safety performance across our Infrastructure Delivery teams.


You’ll support with the effective implementation, coordination, execution and monitoring of all aspects of Safety and Quality Assurance, ensuring compliance with all relevant ISO Standards, NGET policies, procedures, specifications and the wider National Grid Quality Management system. 


Acting as a source of expertise on SHEQ issues, you’ll provide specialist advice on Construction Safety management, Environmental management and Wellbeing management which will drive the strategy to enable responsibility and accountability to reside with line managers and staff, with emphasis on behavioural safety.  


You’ll liaise with Principal Contractors to ensure the preparation and implementation of Project Quality Plans, Project Environmental Plans, Site Water Management Plans and Inspection & Test Plans are in accordance with the Works Information. 


In addition, you’ll support any accident or incident investigations to establish root causes, providing expert advice, support and guidance on legal framework and communicate learning points. You’ll also provide and present monthly SHEQ data and statistics.


This role will be covering the North of England, and your time will be split between home, office and travel to sites.

 


 

What you'll need

 

You will have experience of working in a similar role in a high-risk environment, ideally on a large civil engineering project. A background in energy would be an advantage.

 

You will also possess the following:

  • NEBOSH Certificate or IOSH Managing safety or equivalent and / or ISO 9001 Lead Auditor.
  • HNC/D level or equivalent in an engineering/construction related discipline. 
  • Current full UK driving licence.
  • Thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and behavioural safety and how it relates to the construction industry.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Quality and Business Management Systems within a construction environment.
  • Experience in auditing and root cause analysis techniques. 
  • A good understanding of CDM Regulations.
  • Good IT skills in Microsoft Office suite e.g. Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication and inter-personal skills with proven skills in coaching and motivating people, coupled with the ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Ability to develop & deliver training/briefing material in an innovative and effective way.
