National Grid Strategic Infrastructure delivers major strategic UK electricity transmission projects, focused on connecting more clean, low-carbon power to England and Wales.
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you'll lead a robust end-to-end commercial lifecycle including procurement, contract management, claims and risk management process. You'll lead the project commercial team to deliver performance and drive innovation.
This role is responsible for managing all relevant contractual aspects of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) offshore projects valued in excess of £3bn, ensuring that the processes, procedures and working methods meet the requirements of our internal governance process (BP500SI) and the project Steering Committee. You will act as the key contractual relationship manager with contractors relating to EPC and, non-EPC contracts. In addition, you'll act as the key commercial interface between the project and the central SI teams and will be a key contributor to the project leadership team.
In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to regular travel throughout England and Scotland, depending on the project.
Key accountabilities
- Lead and develop the team effectively; provide coaching, guidance, direction and leadership to the team of commercial and contractual experts while ensuring resources meet budget and business plan objectives.
- Lead on overarching commercial contracting strategy, commercial negotiations and commercial outcomes for projects in tendering and those planned in the future.
- Lead on execution of claims management and negotiation of all material variations to the contract and effectively manage contractual performance, ensuring contractor and client-side obligations are understood and complied with.
- Work closely with the regulation team, ensuring the project has the right level of expertise required to achieve successful regulatory outcomes and support the development of robust regulatory funding submissions, particularly around the agreed contract and commercial strategies working with key stakeholders within NG (UK Reg, UK Legal and Global Procurement) and Project Director, ensuring all costs to date and future costs associated with the specific project(s) are captured and the correct level of funding is applied for and awarded to NG.
About you
You have the gravitas to operate independently both internally and externally.
You are entrepreneurial, an expert at driving commercial value and can bring best practice from other parts of the energy sector as well as from other industries. You are open to new ideas and new ways of doing things.
You are keen to learn and will constantly think of innovative ways to drive commercial value. An understanding of the regulatory environment that National Grid operates in would be desirable, as would a good understanding of procurement, commercial value, contractual processes, project management, and analysing and identifying sources of risk.
- Commercial expertise of construction projects or programmes.
- Very strong stakeholder management.
- Working on large scale EPC model projects (FIDIC, NEC).
- Leadership experience.
- Commercial Technical Acumen.
- Experience of working with major contracting organisations and getting the best available options.
- Commercial and Contractual negotiation skills within construction industry.
What you'll get
A competitive starting salary between £80,000 - £100,000 – dependent on capability.
