About the role
Join us and help to build a cleaner, greener energy system.
Tackling climate change is the defining challenge for our generation. It demands innovation and fresh thinking across every part of the energy sector. At National Grid Ventures, we’re investing in the technologies that will ignite a new era of clean energy.
The HVDC Engineering team provides technical expertise and asset management support to our portfolio of operational interconnectors (including IFA1, IFA2, NSL and Viking Link) to ensure efficient, safe and reliable assets throughout their life cycle.
As a Senior Investment Engineer, you'll have a critical role in steering the end-to-end asset investment lifecycle from needs case to optioneering & development through to delivery and closure for works on our operational interconnectors. In doing so you will play a key role in ensuring optimal-cost, fit-for-purpose and safe asset intervention solutions are planned, prepared and delivered in line with the business’ regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments.
In this role you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home. You'll be flexible to travelling to our Warwick office and UK Interconnector sites. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!
Key accountabilities
- Drive asset investments from inception through financial sanction and then closure.
- Ensure that asset intervention / investment governance is maintained throughout all phases and lead on any required sanctions.
- Work closely with Asset Strategy to plan and manage the investment plans for our operational interconnector sites.
- Track and report on asset intervention portfolio cost, programme and other performance KPI’s in line with business requirements and targets.
- Support in the continual improvement of the decision-making framework to consistently assess a variety of asset intervention opportunities.
- Drive the successful engineering and financial closure of Capex projects, supporting a smooth asset handover from Construction to Operations.

- Working knowledge of Investment Management principles and approaches.
- Experience of working in a CAPEX delivery environment and / or process.
- Experience with project management and change management approaches and principles.
- Excellent stakeholder management, influence and engagement skills.
Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
What you'll get
- A competitive salary between £51,000 – £65,000 dependent on capability.
- Established market supplement of £4,500 per annum (paid monthly).
- Job requirement car.
