About the role

 

Climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation. The transition to clean energy is critical to helping us achieve the goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050. As National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is at the heart of energy in the UK, we have a big part to play in supporting the delivery of a decarbonised energy system. 

 

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to work at the heart of delivering our major new infrastructure projects.  You’ll join our Nuclear Team in Somerset managing the Hinkley Connection Project and be on site for 2-3 days per week and work from home or the site office for the rest of the week.  Regular travel to other sites will be required.  You’ll be fully accountable for delivering the high-profile complex projects safely, to quality and to time within regulatory allowances. 

 

The team you manage will develop and deliver solutions to not only meet the technical needs of the NGET network today, but also ensure that our systems are fit for purpose in our net zero future with a key focus on sustainable construction in the early design stages to help meet the carbon neutral in construction business targets.

 

You’ll be leading a multidisciplinary matrixed team of Project Managers and Project Supervisors through the whole project life cycle, from identifying the correct funding stream, operational and environmental optioneering/option selection, development of early design strategies, to being accountable for detailed design, contract award and production of construction delivery Programmes, including regulation, governance and procurement activities.

 

In addition, you’ll lead transmission system access, as well as the interface between the operations and commissioning teams for the Hinkley Connection Project to secure all necessary outages are planned and executed in a timely and efficient manner.

 


 

About You

 

We’re looking for someone who is motivated and committed to getting their projects delivered safely, on time and to budget. Someone, who can inspire and empower our people for great performance. 


You will have a background in project management/engineering, have strong commercial acumen and experience leading cross functional teams in an operational environment with a good understanding of financial management and reporting at Portfolio level. 


A self-starter who is good at playing devil’s advocate and foreseeing potential problems, you will ideally have a degree or qualification in project management, engineering, or equivalent experience.  Experience of managing work in accordance with BP106 and Commissioning Panel Chairperson authorisation would be beneficial but not essential.


You will need a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK, and your time will be spent between home, office and site.
