Senior Sustainability Analyst
GB
About the role
Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
As we build the projects that will make the energy transition happen, we’re looking for a brilliant Senior Sustainability Strategy Analyst in our Strategic Infrastructure business unit.
The Strategic Infrastructure business unit two years old and is the growth engine for future transmission infrastructure investment in National Grid. It is responsible for delivering 17 projects set out in the ASTI framework, plus other new infrastructure needed to get the UK to Net Zero by 2050.
Whilst that infrastructure is critical to the UK’s energy transition, construction of the infrastructure itself will undoubtably have associated impacts on our climate, the surrounding natural environment and communities. This role would see you support in the development of strategies to mitigate that impact, in the context of a ‘once in a generation’ capital delivery programme that will ultimately deliver Net Zero for the UK.
You will work with colleagues across the business to identify sustainability opportunities that help us enable the energy transition, reduce the impact on the environment, support communities, and deliver value to our customers.
About you
What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:
- Experience of working within a company, either as part of a consultancy or within a business directly.
- Be able to demonstrate technical ability in sustainability, climate-related reporting, carbon emissions, lifecycle analysis and the capacity to remain updated with emerging issues and standards.
- Confident collecting, handling, analysing and presenting large amounts of data to a range of stakeholders. Good analytical skills and rational decision making.
- Proven research skills, a keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly to different audiences.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and comfortable engaging and networking with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
What you'll do
- Work with teams across the business to develop and deliver sustainability strategies for new national infrastructure projects.
- Develop roadmaps for how National Grid will decarbonise key construction materials in line with our net zero targets.
- Work collaboratively across the business to implement initiatives to reduce carbon emissions from our construction activities.
- Assist the Sustainability Strategy Manager in engagement with project directors, regulators and subcontractors on sustainability matters as required.
- Work with project Sustainability and Environmental Advisors to embed sustainability throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring key environmental, carbon, and social value criteria are incorporated into decision-making in line with contractual obligations, cost, programme, and design development.
- Develop and maintain key internal stakeholder relationships.
- Actively participate in external forums representing National Grid, communicate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
- Coordinate the implementation of sustainability initiatives from conception through to implementation on projects.
What you'll get
A competitive salary between £55,000 - £62,000, dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
