About The Role

The Market Analysis team deliver insight and analysis of European power markets to help inform decisions that optimise interconnector auction revenues, support financial business planning and promote interconnectors to our stakeholders.

 

The role holder will be responsible for obtaining and transforming market data to provide in-depth analysis to support interconnector auction optimisation and communicate interconnector performance to internal and external stakeholders. This involves researching the latest market news, obtaining market fundamental data and publishing analysis in Power BI dashboards.

 

The role holder will be responsible for managing internal and external relationships relevant to the area of expertise and for providing development support to more junior team members.

 

This role is based in Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

Key Accountabilities

•    Responsible for obtaining and transforming market data to provide in-depth analysis to support interconnector auction optimisation and communicate interconnector performance to internal and external stakeholders.
•    Provide market analysis support to contribute to the development of existing and new products, working closely with internal stakeholders.
•    Contribute to the development and maintenance of European Power Market Scenarios owned by the National Grid Group Market Analytics team. 
•    Pro-actively engage with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Support and develop more junior team members.
•    Establish and grow strong industry networks to enhance understanding of key market drivers and developments.

Knowledge & Experience Required

•    Wide breadth and depth of knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures, policies and regulations, market fundamentals and recent trends. Ability to translate this specialist information into business insight and be able to communicate this clearly.
•    Understanding of related markets (gas, coal, carbon, oil, macro-economics) and their impacts on power markets.
•    Understanding of interconnector business models and sources of revenue.
•    Experience of publishing data analysis in Power BI.
•    Experienced in managing relationships with internal & external stakeholders/project partners.
•    Highly analytical and quantitative – demonstrated ability to critically review modelled inputs and outputs. 
•    A track record of thinking critically and developing thoughtful opinions by cutting through the noise of data, extracting key patterns, and asking insightful questions. 

Qualifications & Skills Required

•    A high level of quantitative and analytical skills and experience.
•    Strong planning and organisational skills, ability to simultaneously manage and prioritise multiple issues.
•    Ability to analyse complex situations based on market understanding and translate this into business insight and articulate impact on investment cases. 
•    Able to draft and present clear, concise and compelling strategic analysis and recommendations for senior management.
•    Ability to work and communicate well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
•    Self-motivated, entrepreneurial and responsible individual with the ability to perform well under pressure.
•    Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
•    Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to influence others, work collaboratively and constructively with others.

Additional Information

A competitive salary between £44,100 - £51,861 dependent on capability.
