Warwick, WAR, GB, CV34 6DA

Division:  Procurement UK Construction
Job Type:
Requisition Number:  12907
Job Category:  Global Procurement
Job Function:  Procurement and Contract Management
About the Role

The energy industry is changing – and we’re changing with it. At National Grid, we’re revolutionising our supply chains, exploring new markets and rethinking the power of procurement.

As an Associate Buyer you will be responsible for supporting strategic procurement operations within the aligned business area. The role will assist the Senior Buyer and Category Manager in delivery of Category strategies. This will involve engaging and building strong working relationships with stakeholders to identify business needs and then ensuring we understand the supply chains so we can offer the best solutions for National Grid.

You’ll also get to know your stakeholders: what they need and the supply chains they need to tap into. This range of tasks means you could be assisting with setting the sourcing strategy or delivering strategic sourcing projects one day and awarding contracts the next. You therefore need to be organised, motivated and ready to become an expert in our systems and processes. Skilled and ready to learn, you’ll thrive on running more complex, £multi-million events and influencing stakeholders and colleagues alike.

About you

What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to train and recruit current – or potential – experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in strategic sourcing and category management.
  • Has an understanding of project management principles and ideally evidence of managing multiple projects and consistently delivering outstanding results.
  • Is highly analytical with excellent presentation skills.
  • Has strong communication skills coupled with the ability to work with people across the organisation.
  • Is articulate with good commercial acumen, can support negotiations, work with multi-disciplinary teams and build strong relationships.
  • Ideally, you’ll be working towards MCIPS qualification.
What you'll get

A competitive salary between £31,700– £33,300– dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
