About the role


We are seeking a Commercial and Portfolio Manager to join us to lead a multi-disciplined team to outperform against National Grid’s regulatory commitments on network reliability outcomes and incentives.  

You will provide end-to-end management of the cyber operational technology and Optel portfolios in the Electricity Transmission business.  You will ensure that investments are being managed to cost and programme, from attracting funding for works from the regulator, to driving the timely development of projects through the pre-construction phases through to sanction, tendering / procurement process, contract award, handover to delivery, site installation, commissioning and close-out.

You will lead your team to provide end-to-end portfolio ownership, accountability and management, whilst tracking and reporting on investment and portfolio cost, programme and other KPIs performance in line with regulatory requirements and outperformance targets.


We are looking for someone to support the completion of Regulatory Reporting Packs (RRPs) for their specific asset investment portfolio, and be the central liaison point between Asset Operations & Network Outcomes and other stakeholders for specific asset portfolio.

About You


You will come from an engineering or cyber background, with a proven track record within a commercial environment and experience of managing multi-disciplined teams.


You will have proficient knowledge in Contract Management and demonstrated commercial acumen, with an advanced understanding of management of contingency across all project / investment phases, and ideally understanding financial forecasting and control processes.


You’ll be a leader who is both comfortable with people management and has the technical expertise to succeed, as detailed below:


  • Skilled with engaging stakeholders and working collaboratively to remove blockers.
  • Experienced at developing teams and delivering high quality results.
  • Demonstrable experience of problem solving and an appetite for continuous improvement in relation to both their own development and that of the team.
  • Skilled in identifying and implementing business improvement initiatives that have led to cost saving and /or improved efficiency.  



  • Proficient understanding and demonstrable working knowledge of key business processes and governance.
  • Proficient technical knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and the transmission assets.
  • Accomplished knowledge and application of CDM, Safety and Environmental Regulations. 
  • Proficient project management skills including management of time, cost, safety and risk.
  • CDM, Health & Safety and Environmental legislation awareness, and from a Cyber/Engineering background

What You'll Get


A competitive salary between £57,000 - £71,500 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
